Scare? Just stop reading pish like this lot are on about here. Only a very low percentage work in the NHS anyway and the rest are just regurgitating crap from there preferred news source. Just get on with your day the best you can within your local rules. Right now the only thing that worries me is will Nicola with the cock shut us down after new year and our meal in Edinburgh with my sister and BIL will be postponed.

I think Noggin's fears may have more to do with her new job vapourising as the uk ski travellers don't fly.

The death rate in 2020 was the highest since 2003 is one way of looking at it. The death rate in 2020 was lower than any year in the 20th century or earlier is another way of looking at it. How scared do you want to be? How scary do you want to be?

Re: Stealth Omicron
I think inevitably we've been slightly anaesthetised to the whole thing. Rules made for our own safety are flouted daily and the vast majority just carry in as normal. 'The science' feels increasingly iffy and irrelevant when you're triple jabbed. We're hardly soldiers going to war but most of us are really blasé now about masses of deaths. Even the odd way we need to work people have largely stopped moaning about.
This is all so normal now that it's just bloody inconvenient. I'm far more miffed about losing quids to Ryanair and missing Christmas with family, than I just was about wandering through a crowded supermarche of potential Omicron spreaders.

Re: Stealth Omicron
Exactly. I've done everything I've been supposed to do and had Covid (in an exceptionally mild form) twice. I'm not scared of the virus now, I'm scared for my job, my friends businesses and to be honest, the lifestyle here. I'm scared for various friends that are mentally right on the edge with these latest measures (risking complete loss of their business).
The trouble is that between Covid and the two B's, most people I know here are just seriously fed up and BORED with it all. We've stayed home. We've shut our businesses. We've been vaccinated. And boosted. And still our livelihoods are at risk.
At what point is it acceptable to go back to a 'relatively' normal life?
And yes, I still wear a mask where I should, I disinfect the surfaces in the minibus that I can between passenger groups (how do you disinfect cloth) and I haven't been to any of the Apres bars in case I catch it with no symptoms and become a carrier/sharer. But still I might lose my 'new' job. Which means I might lose my home.
So yes. Scared and seriously fed up!
Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!!

Re: Stealth Omicron
The Netherlands have gone into lockdown again and London has declared a major incident over hospital numbers. So far I haven't been bothered about people not getting vaccinations but I'm getting fucked off with anti-vaxxers protesting against restrictions whilst being the main cause of them.

Yeah, me too. I wouldn't shed a tear if an anti-vaxxer gets Covid and dies. Hopefully quickly at minimum cost.Mussels wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 6:32 pm The Netherlands have gone into lockdown again and London has declared a major incident over hospital numbers. Yep, vast majority of people in hospital are unvaxxed (according to the BBC).Mussels wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 6:32 pm The Netherlands have gone into lockdown again and London has declared a major incident over hospital numbers. My G/F's sister is a nurse in A&E. She says the vast majority of those in hospital with Covid are not vaccinated.
She says about 1/3rd of them are pregnant women who were advised not to have the vaccine.

Re: Stealth Omicron
That must be a really difficult choice for pregnant women. Risk from covid vs risk to unborn child.

Re: Stealth Omicron
Sadiq Khan said Omicron is now the "dominant variant" in London and was having an impact on staff absences in the emergency services across the city.
"What we can't afford to see is even more of our crucial key workers going off sick because they have this virus."
I wonder whether all those staff are unvaccinated too ... ?

Re: Stealth Omicron
I'm inclined to think anti vaxxers are a bit mad, but I personally know a family with only the daughter vaccinated and when they all caught Covid the unjabbed members actually recovered faster than the daughter.
In other news, I had my booster today, no queue, very slick operation, in and out inside 20 minutes.
Big antivax protest in Belfast, heard a trader from inside the market in the City Hall grounds came out shouting at the protesters and got slapped.

Re: Stealth Omicron
Am willing to bet that the next lockdown will primarily be because public services such as NHS, Fire, Police will have been decimated by Omicron.

Are they ill with Covid, or just testing +ve?
If the latter, there is an easy fix.

As I was typing about the London incident I was wondering if it was just a political move by the labour mayor trying to stir things up.

Again. TfL pretty much went bankrupt months ago and were bailed out.
