Hope they paid ?
I can't fault the dealer who sold me the car, so much so that he deserves a plug

I've have to look at the bill later.. I'm not convinced there's that much between dealer and decent Indy place these days, even our local indy is £60+ per hour

If its a 1.5DCi K9K, I just speed watched a video of one being changed. For an EGR valve it's actually quite accessible. WOnder what Nissan charge for a EGR valve? imagine they must lump in a few other things, sundries, diagnostic scan etc to get it up to that!

No, it's the 1.6dCi (nissan engine)

Exhaust actuator N20010BB60B @ £404
Fitting @ £90

EGR Valve Gaskets N1471900Q0N @ £48
Labour 2 @ £90

all + VAT.

I noticed today at the pumps, there's diesel and there's super diesel. I wonder if super would help with these emission filter things. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I suppose if its a cleaner burn then it should be better, but its still a dirty, sooty burn and will eventually cause problems regardless. They [EGR valves] should be a serviceable item imo.

The lads on the Jaguar forum swear by a fuel additive called Oxicat. It's a post combustion cleaner.

I'm not one for magic potions but I used it and took my diesel XF from 40,000 to 140,000 miles with no issues on all the the diesel emission bits (EGR, DPF etc).

My beemer has run successfully from 20k to 120k running on Tesco own brand diesel with no additives....

Snake oil, use a diesel on longer trips and keep it revving, it'll be fine

I used to add two-stroke to the tank of my old Direct Injection Diesel, I swear it was less clattery and ran smoother.

I read their blurb and couldn't understand why they had a special version for hybrids, petrol/diesel I could understand but why is the engine in a hybrid different?

I think most later diesels auto regen where they pump in excess fuel so the DPF gets red hot and burns off the clogging crap.

I heard a story where a guy in a Mini parked his car on some scrubland to go to a market. The DPF was so hot it set fire to the grass underneath and burnt out his car!

They do - you can feel it sometimes as a sort of sluggishness in the engine. You can also smell it.

My car has only done it maybe twice in the 100k I've owned it I think. My commute was previously 45 miles each way, so the car would get a decent length drive twice a day, every week day.

Another minor episode on Friday with the light on the dash.

Knew where my code reader was this time and the error was i think a minor variation on the theme, but admittedly i forgot to note it and take a pic, but it was EGR/DPF related. Just to recap, i had a full EGR and Exhaust Actuator 5 months ago by Nissan. Although as far as i know they didn't do anything to DPF.

So i've got 3 current options.

1. Remove DFP/EGR (approx £350 but techincally illegal)
2. Clean DPF (£249 legal and should make it right)
3. Honda CR-V / Ford Kuga petrol, £11,000, that'll fix the issue
https://www.aldridgevehicleservices.co. ... d-s-s-5dr/
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... posit=true

4. Something else... but absolutely no idea at this stage.

The Qashqai is fairly comfortable but that's really where the enjoyment of it ends. It's clunky (in a suspension context), it's loud in a road noise and i think wheel bearing context. But it does go, stop, work and drive... but it's far from being a car i like. Was arguably not my best move buying it. But does that mean i want to lob a bucket load of cash in there.. I don't know.

Potter wrote: Mon May 23, 2022 6:47 am Would those two cars be more reliable? I don't know, I'm just asking.
I think in your circumstances I might be tempted to lease something or get something new on one of those fancy PCP deals which is as good as leasing because you just give it back and get a new one at a certain point - i.e. once the warranty ends.

Buying a used motor outright is probably always going to give maintenance issues because everything is engineered right on the edge of cost versus performance these days.
The first part is of course the question i cannot answer... we always like to go into purchases thinking "yeah this'll be great" and it doesn't always turn out to be the case.

Leasing i'm not keen on as they're quite picky on return condition of the vehicle and with our activities being MTBing all year, that's far from likely to be immaculate on return. PCP you'd be amazed at how little car you get for say £225 a month, it's got to be a fairly decent size for our trips/MTBing...

The Honda CRV routinely comes out well in reliability tests (Honda innit?) some years manufacture slightly better than others. Petrol seems a better option in any case, ever since they tried to make diesels better environmentally the legendary reliability seems to have gone down the tubes.

CRV feedback from an owner I know. Comfy, reliable, a 'bit of a heavy lump', but would have another.

OTOH there are huge numbers of Cashcows out there with happy owners (usually to be seen midweek, parked up at National Trust properties  ).

I wouldn't go as far as to say my QQ is horrible... but it's not a hugely nice place to be. The seat comfort is about the only thing in it's favour. Noise of engine/driving isn't particularly nice.

I viewed this on Sun morning and it was proper plush, nice, lovely thing... but part of me really is trying not to lob a million £££ at the problem, but then again, it's easier to throw money at something when you don't really like your current car much
