Cleaned the Madone, lots of degreaser/blast spray into the brakes as commuting duties really affects them, especially the rear brake which is annoyingly mounted under the BB so all the winter road grime just packs into the brake and turns it into a grunchy mess. Also degunked the drive train as it was very yucky before optimistically relubing with chain wax. Also straightened a VERY wonky mech hanger, how the gears worked I'll never know!

Yes, it was a short lived road bike thing for "aero" purposes but it's a royal pain in the arse, the rear rim brake is mounted under the BB so you can guess how much crap it collects.

I had an MTB in the very early nineties with a U-brake in the same place. Daft.

Rear brake on the 161 now 203 rotor
Front brake now 203 rotor

The minefield of brake adapters is now a complete pain in the arse!
(And I am not sure how hope manage to justify 20 GBP plus for theirs!)

Oh cool. He's nearly been on one of those lol.

Mate bought a Superfoxy R a few weeks ago, I was half tempted by one at Sunset Cycles but the 65deg head angle put me off

If we ever meet up at a bike park you're welcome to have a go on it.

That'd be awesome mate, my LBS mate has just built one up and likes it, although isn't in love with the Mavens as much as my boy is. He seems to have the wandering bite point that afflict some. Not sure why he does and we don't.

I was tempted this week by a Session from Blazing Bikes, they'll do a 2025 for £4400 out the door which is awesome money, but every time i think about it i think "should I, why would I, when would I" and i don't really know the answer. If we go to Dyfi/Somewhere it automatically doubles the price for riding and adds on £50 to the day and in truth i'm not sure how much i'd get out of it in terms of riding and whether i'd massively enjoy it more than the Fuels. So i'm still holding off at the moment. They Status 170DH is right up there in terms of "should I" as well. I'm going to see how many times we head somewhere that i could/would ride in the next few months as racing gets pretty much insane in about 3 weeks time and we're out at races pretty much every weekend.

So you have basically bought it in your head, now we just need the physical exchange of money

Not really in truth, i've often 'bought' and even gone through clicking on various bikes, but then the final click doesn't materialise. It happens more than you'd think.
I'm in a very good place with my Fuel EX8 and we're massively friends. Add in the Orbea to the mix (if it wasn't poorly) it's hard to think of what could be a better suited mix. But Morzine does kinda throw in a curve-ball for this stuff, but that depends on what i ride there and a simple bike hire for 1-2 days (including Sessions) may be the answer for that

Lubed the E-bikes chain, fitted it with new grips and then installed some new TIME pedals after I'd lubed them (opening them up it appears TIME are a bit stingy with the grease). The old pedals will be refurbished next week with new bearings and IGUS bushes (as only recently have repair kits featuring this type of bush become available) and put them in the spares drawer.

To do: headset and BB on road bike. Headset check on the E-Bike and the Curtis needs BB and headset maintenance, so a busy day or two on rest days next week.

Snapped the chain on the Curtis, it was still within the wear limit but I suspect I may have reused the snap link one too many times! Rattling down my favourite trail I thought I'd dropped the chain over a rattly bit but I suspect it let go there and then it snagged on something, by the time I'd stopped it'd removed a link so I had to do some trail surgery and then carried on without spinnyiest gear. New XX1 in rainbow ordered, hopefully it'll cope with a 4 year old cassette.

Curtis Chris King headset serviced, it's 5 years old and still in good nick. They're fiddly to get the seals and snap rings back in place but it always seems well sealed. I think all being well I should get another 3 or 4 years out of it.

New pads in the Epocalypse , relubed the rear hub as it felt horrible, as usual it was the XD driver bearings, they’re a lot better but will need replacing after Dartmoor. Two new Albert almost radials fitted, ultra soft front and soft rear. Just headset bearings to replace on Saturday
