Bottom line: if you want your wishes carried out, get it sorted now, including LPAs for finance and health (or local equivalents if they have them) as you never know when you could shuffle off that coil. Nogs, in your case, every time you step outside the house.

That's a bit harsh!! (possibly true!!!)

I need to find a French solicitor to help me through it all. I did start to just before the shoulder op but didn't have the money to sort anything and at the time thought the value was still what I'd paid, so it wasn't worth much after the taxes.

Once I've worked the summer as well, I hope I'll be able to go back to the guy I spoke to before and get stuff sorted. I don't think english wills work here now and as I have nothing in the uk, there is no point!! Just need to find an insurance policy that covers costs so that I can leave what I want to the kids I want to leave it to!!

Take a look at European Succession Regulation 650/2012, also known as ‘Brussels IV’, which came into force on 17 August 2015 (and not impacted by Brexit) - that might help you. Basically as a furriner you can choose to declare (write into your will) that you wish to elect for the law of your nationality to apply to the disposal of your estate, and for it to be recognised in France. It might not help you with taxes, but it will certainly help with automatic succession normal under French law.

Be wary of French solicitors as they will automatically assume you WANT to be subject to French law because it is better right? and they won't fecking understand, or care, that you might and already have the right to be treated differently.

I spoke to a good one before that is qualified in the UK and France (he's French) and does a lot for Brits in France! But yes, I'll see if there's a way to reduce taxes!! LOL

First busy weekend of the season over and it all went smoothly. Happy guests all round and I made €160+ renting out barbecues

Got my coffee thingy for the new coffee machine this morning - now I can make 'good' coffee in the machine




(I had a load of cheap coffee dosettes for the office left over from when I thought I'd be working till end of May! Which is why I bought this machine, although it was also cheaper than a replacement Lidl machine!! But also this one makes a decent hot choc (cos I use a website that sells the dosettes really cheaply!! )

Now to wait for the torréfacteur to reopen in Bourg and I can buy some of the nice 'gentle' (as in not really bitter!) coffee again

Replaced the leaky rear shock with a good used one, £102 delivered as opposed to £750 + vat + delivery for a new one!

I had to go to the DIY shop so I took the bike. It was SOOOO good to be back on the bike, it goes well, handles beautifully and cuts through traffic. I wasn't upset when I got home and realised I'd bought the wrong thing so had to go back again!

Went to Sandown Park last night as a bloke in work loves the gee-gees and threw it out there that he was going and it sort of snowballed into 30-ish people turning up. Good night was had by all, drank too much and had no bloody winners, thanks for asking!

I ending up chatting to a young lad who's been working in our branches for a few years. He told me this story:

"It was my second day working for the bank, fresh out of uni, nervous as fuck and I've been sent to head office to do some induction training. I was struggling with which lift to get and which floor to go to, when some bloke came up, crash helmet in hand, pointed me to the right lift and started chatting. I explained who I was, why I was there and how nervous I was, then you stuck your hand out, shook me by the hand and introduced yourself and said, 'There you go, you know somebody in head office now if you ever need anything'. It really put me at ease and I remember thinking it was a really nice thing to do"

S'funny how little thing you do and totally forget about make a difference to people.

Getting a letter in response to my application to be a Rector in a nice benefice (around the corner from Brands Hatch). So I go for the interview on 20th June. First interview in a long time as well!

Coming up to leaving the army in 1990, the wife and I considered buying a plot of land and growing asparagus. We did a fair bit of homework and found out there wasn't going to be a lot of money in it.

The tips were good though.
