Sometimes new shit just doesn't work as well as old shit. We canned a perfectly good washing machine and tumble dryer and Mrs.Skub went for a washer/dryer. Man,what a crock. A tumble dryer does it's job on a load in 40mins to one hour. This fucking thing wants 4 and five hour cycles.
Progress.
Get used to it, it's 'green' innit. All the white goods manufacturers are on a race to the top in terms of 'energy efficiency', and that is a race to the bottom in terms of actually working
That's so true.
This washer/dryer thing has all the bells and whistles, bluetooth from your phone, downloadable programmes, etc (wtf wants to do that anyway?) The only thing is,it doesn't actually function very well as a washer/dryer.
Greta can kiss my eco arse.

Our new boiler takes an age to warm up the house compared to the old one. It does get there and maintains the warmth well, but you need to plan ahead. I guess this is because our old boiler used to light up like an F-16 afterburner when you fired up the heating, whereas, the new one lights up like a Lucas 6v headlight when it comes on!

Who chose the boiler?

The Creda panel heater that I just fitted has Bluetooth capability apparently, so you can control it from an app...if you are in Bluetooth range. Like, really?
The new washing machine has 'eco' cycles that take forever so everything gets done on Cottons/Short Wash. The killer is...because doing only eco-friendly, low temperature (30-40°) washes means that washing machines get smelly you have to do a 90° cycle at regular intervals. We don't have anything that needs washing at 90° so that's high temperature washes with nothing in the machine.
The replacement oven that we had installed is better insulated than the old one, so the interior is just a tad smaller. So my rather expensive, nearly new roasting tray doesn't fit.
The car has an 'Economy' setting. I tried it - for 5 minutes.
However, the 'new' condensing C/H boiler with Hive app/controller is

Re-usable cotton dishcloths etc, washed once a week at 90°C - job done. Double greenwashed by having reusable cloths and not doing a pointless 90°.
We used to also do baby D's nappies hot, but she's long out of them.

Don't use dishcloths. Compostable chunks of loofah are the thing according to Madame Plongeur (plongeuse?).

(The dishwasher is just gathering cobwebs so I guess we get an eco

for that).

Supposedly a full dishwasher run is more eco friendly than washing up the same stuff by hand.
Licking the plates clean trumps both.

It would take us a week to fill it and it's only a slimline (probably because I don't like putting my pans and kitchen knives in).
It only gets used if we're feeding visitors but I'll tell them to get licking those plates....if we ever have visitors again

Spain used to get near on £8 billion from UK tourism, so that won't go unmissed!

That can't be true. They never miss an opportunity to give out those "couldn't deliver/you weren't in" cards.

It's stupid and petty, but I am tired and seriously stressed about losing my job, but -
Stopped at my favourite sandwich place to chat with the manager and have a hot choc and a sandwich. Went in, sat down and a woman (she was staff!) came up to ask what I wanted. Well, barely, she sort of threw that at me whilst moving to talk to another staff member. At this point I should have said, "oops, sorry, I forgot that I have to be somewhere!!" Cos, for some reason, this woman is the only person at that cafe that won't serve me. One way or another she doesn't
In the past she has refused to understand when I've asked for a Chocolat Chaud - come on, even in the worst English accented French, that is understandable
Anyway, I said hello and then, in my best French I asked for a panini 'Transalpin' (trons-al-pan!) - which the others in there understand. After the third try to be met with a shrug and 'huh?' I got up to leave. As the boss walked back in. He translated for her (FFS, it's not difficult!!) and said did I not want one. But with the fatigue and the stress I was loosing my little bit of control so said no - stupidly, I also said "next she won't understand Chocolat Chaud as usual"
I then went to the bakery to buy some bread to take home and had a really long conversation with both women in there - IN FRENCH!!! We talked politics, work, health and why do some French refuse to understand some English even when they try really hard!!
I feel better after the chat in the bakery in that I can speak french and be understood. I don't have a really bad accent.
But this one woman always refuses to understand me. In the past I've put it down to my accent. But I know now that it's good. And I work really hard at it. I have had full on conversations in French with all the other people that work in the cafe so really fail to understand what her issue is
Of course, what is pissing me off now is that I will have to go back later (or in the morning when she isn't there) and apologise to the boss guy for being a dick. Ok, she was a dick first, but I should have behaved better, no excuse
But, she is a total fuckwit

Are you certain French is her first language and that she's not trying to learn it fluently like you are?
