Jurassic World: Rebirth https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31036941/

It's actually not terrible, nothing new, no surprises, same old format and cliches, some nice nods back to the original film, a solid wet Sunday afternoon film.

Nobody 2

Excellent, politically incorrect mindless violence

Tron Ares https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6604188/

Arse / 10, very pretty to watch but zero substance, the only way this progresses the story is through the clumsy wait for the next sequal plot device.

OTT WWII film with a spaghetti western vibe, probably the best film I've seen this year
Sisu: Road to Revenge https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31844586/

Not as good as the original flick, but still ultra violent with no regards given to the laws of physics, did not disappoint.

Send Help - darker than expected! Decent enough.

Project Hail Mary - if you see one film this year, make it this one, it's got a lovable alien, a lovable human, and a decent plot 👍

My TV remembered that I'd watched the first 16 minutes before and gave up.

But gave it another go coz of your review.

Hmm, he killed 7 armed Nazis by himself.

Then the river decided it. Underwater for ages carrying half ton of gold and still killing folk.

Had to give up then :obscene-birdiedoublered:

Gladiator II https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9218128/

Steamin' sack of manure / 10
All style over substance and the style fell a long way short of the original, yet another cynical Hollywood sequel money grab

Watched a faithful 4k remake of 'Enemy Mine' last night.

Actually it was the penultimate episode of Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

SNW seems determined to do episodes in every major genre' - medical à la ER, period costume drama, 'archaeologist releases something evil', murder mystery/whodunnit, West End Musical, and several others and to recreate stuff like Alien and Enemy Mine at the expense of story arc.

'Four-and-a-half Vulcans' was the 'body swap comedy' but was one of the highlights.

Can't wait for season 4!

(In the meantime I've ordered a dose of Walton Goggins in 4k - Seasons 1 & 2 of 'Freefall').

Just watched, and then spent half an hour on my back in the back garden looking up at the stars.
A happy sad feel good film that hits just right in my opinion, regardless of the obvious factual errors, it's not often I feel a film deserves a sequel but a PHM II wouldn't be outrageous.

Watched Upgrade on the flight to Chile, pretty dark look at what could happen, but very well acted i thought by the lead who is going to end up playing Tom Hardy's twin at some point.

Bought a few randomish DVDs in Oxfam - a lot of stuff on the shelves is like 'Churchill's War' genre but there's quite a lot of discs at 99p of things I might enjoy and things I'd quite like to see again.

So, up first, 'Girl With a Pearl Earring' (2003) - Colin Firth being mean, moody and magnificent - as ever - playing the role of Vermeer and a young Scarlett Johanssen as the girl in the painting.

Pretty faithful to the book and, thankfully, not a :angry-cussingblack: -about-with Hollywood job. Slow, beautifully filmed, interesting 'special features'. Scarlett Johanssen manages to look exceedingly plain and quite beautiful all at the same time.

Enjoyed it. Not everyone's cuppa I'd guess.

Next up - a rewatch of 'Don't Look Now'. (1973 Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland). Saw it on the big screen when it came out and watched on TV since. Could be subtitled 'A Death in Venice' and from what I remember Venice is another star of the film. A Nicolas Roeg film so if you've seen Walkabout and The Man Who Fell to Earth...it 'feels' like a Roeg film. Kind of dreamy and beautifully filmed.

Then Series I and II of 'Borgen'. Scandi-noir I guess, haven't seen it.

Finished season 1 of Borgen and started on season 2. Have to say it's one if the best TV series I've seen, despite the unpromising premise. (It's about about Danish politics/parliament...a bit like the - British - House of Cards but without the pantomime villain). Pitched as Scandi-noir but there's no murders, so far. I understand a bit more about the wheeling and dealing to 'form a government' that some european countries seem to be constantly doing now too  .

Snagged the season 3 DVD set from MusicMagpie for £1.49 inc postage!

(Got the complete West Wing -7 years worth! - for £4.49 from Oxfam too. At that price I'm happy to take a punt and redonate it if it's dire. :D ).

The Last Stand of Ellen Cole
Low rent story of good vs greed, basically John Wicks mum v's evil property developers, not great, not bad.
