MingtheMerciless wrote: Mon Jul 29, 2024 7:27 pm Epocalypse into LBS for all new frame bearings (approx 14 months old) as I am a bearing destroyer. Also hub bearing checks and a brake bleed whilst it's there.

Shock and Forks off for service but it would appear the knock in my headset is in fact the CSU well and truly on the way out so that'll be a warranty job, last time LBS found this the customer got a whole new fork from SRAM. It's a ZEB and whilst its been worked its not like its lived in the Peaks or Dartmoor all its life so I'm a bit disappointed, though trawling forums some people are on their 3rd or 4th warranty CSU.
Wow, sounds like a lot!

I had the frame bearings done at 8 months old after a wet winter and a sodden trip to Dartmoor and they were all good so I pushed it to 14 months this time and see what they say , if all good I''ll push it to 18 months next time. Evil are excellent on warranty issues BUT take a dim view of bearings seizing and spinning up in the frame + shop say as I ride my bike in all weathers I am about their worst/best customer for wrecking things (like an i9 rear hub that appeared to have spent most of its life under water after a Dartmoor trip and a few months of winter).

I also don't have time or patience or workspace/tooling to do this myself.

New jockey wheels fitted to the Curtis, grease topped up with @millemille special grease. I may have let the old bearings get a bit too far gone as the derailleur cage now has some non standard grooves in it. TIME special 8 pedals stripped and regreased and new out board bearing fitted (IGUS bushing inboard all OK). Pedals refitted to Eewings cranks with plenty of copperslip.

Picked NOBL hub rear wheel from LBS after inspection by shop (not been used for a few years so wanted it checked), also collected Onyx hub rear wheel after that was getting rumbly...again, 3 x new bearings, two in free hub and on hub bearing. Apparently I ride my bikes😂.

Fitted old Eagle cassette to NOBL wheel for Dartmoor, had to take it off again to remove spacer as NOBL and Onyx hub drivers are slightly different....d'oh! NOBL hub is better sealed than the Onyx and also NOBL wheel has a Kenda Regolith tyre fitted is better suited to autumnal Dartmoor than the Minion SS on the Onyx. Tyre topped up with sealant jizz.

Cleaned chain, washed it (in sink as Mrs M was out, she'll never know, unlike the time she caught me washing a KR1-s swinger and linkages in the sink......).

Dried chain in conservatory, refitted and Viking lubes ceramic oil used, chain still under 0.75 wear so all good, tweaked AXS rear mech slightly.

Curtis is now ready for Dartmoor.

Ride to work and then attempted to fit some new Contigatorshield tyres to the road bike as I’ve had a few punctures on the commute recently and they are squaring off. Front went on OK but bastard tight, rear was horrendous and my old Mavic rim that I was hoping would get me through winter went “nope” and folded over….I managed to straighten it but tube had punctured fitting the even more bastard tight tyre. Tried another couple of tubes with the same result so puncture repair day tmrw, new Mavic Krysium wheels ordered, currently on the “ train of shame” home and Mrs M is collecting me from the station. Man card well and truly handed in.

Managed to get two new Conti Gatorskins onto two new Magic Krysium wheels. Only nipped one tube so that's a success. Washed Madone, then stripped chain and crank off to clean autumn gunk off it. Need to find a better, less sticky/dirt attracty road lube. Took cassette off old wheel, this involved some kinetic bullying as soft Mavic free hub was chewed up and cassette didn't want to leave it. All parts currently drying after degreasing and washing, BB has a BB extraction tool sitting in it after it spent 30 mins at 150C in the oven. Why; to dry the BB bearings out.

Epocalypse seat post collar managed to unscrew itself last night so post mechanicals full of dirt. Post has been stripped and again currently drying, awaiting rebuilding tmrw so long as I can find my "Slick Honey" grease.

Tomorrow, reassemble the above and make up a new motox foam linkage wedge to stop flint disappearing into the Evils frame after Dog 3 shredded the old one when I dropped it.

Very productive day on my part...

Now have 2 fully functioning MTB's again!

OK so the one only needed some sealant in the tyres and a bit of a tyre kick, but the eBike was in for quite a bit...

-2 new wheels built
-New tyres
-New cranks
-New groupset

Ashamed to say that a house move had got fully in the way of looking after bikes over the last couple of months (my main motorbike still has a punctured front tyre that I haven't got round to sorting!), but some 2 wheeled action beckons again soon... 👍🏻

Curtis BB reassembled and greased with @millemille special grease, it really is great stuff, coping with horrendous levels of contamination but keeps the corrosion and wear at bay.

One Up dropper greased and reassembled (with the one up dropper grease that comes with the service kit) new seals, guide pins and washers, absolute doddle to service, it really has been designed to easily stripped and serviced, unlike far more expensive FOX or SRAM droppers. Refitted to bike.

AXS jockey wheels stripped and regreased and refitted.

New grips fitted , bright orange ODI Vanquish with D30 and a pattern that reminds me of my old AME grips on my BMX some 30 years ago.

To do, set saddle height and position grips to desired rotation.

I found an old nos pair of AM'E Rounds in a drawer a couple of years ago - I sliced the ends off and put them on the motorcycle. Turns out they're pretty good motorcycle grips, too :)

Forgot to say the same (well mine are black with a bit of orange on the end)… Rode them for the first time on Boxing Day… VERY impressed! Might already have become my favourite grip now…

Yep, they are definitely more comfy than the DMR death grips I had previously.

Ain't that the truth, i've been doing it in shifts today.
1. Fit tyres
2. bleed DB8 on the Canyon
3. Clean Orbea
4. Fit Session wheel bearing

That's the lot i think for now.

New dropper post fitted (the new version of Brand X).
Unlike the Trek one it goes up and down - and quickly

Excellent. Just need some nicer weather to try it

Fitted light rubber to the Bfe to make it more "gravel" like - as it hasn't been ridden lately.
Now need some more tubeless sealant

Deffo makes a huge difference, but I'm not sure how much on a 27.5 steel HT
