Next: Your bike & a cop car. :D
A few of your pictures seem to be taken in the same place. Is it a meetup point?

Also, the link to the picture is "https://i.ibb.co/YL8SP28/IMG-20240519-131010866.jpg" which suggests that it was taken or uploaded to imgbb the day before the challenge was set. Is that a misunderstanding on my part and you've ridden to that place in the hour and 20 since the challenge was set? If that's the case then I apologise for asking but it's not much of a game if the picture was from, say, the weekend. Cheers.

It's a popular bar/restaurant in Calabasas, usually stop there on the way home from rides. Pic was from Sunday.

OK beys and gurls. I'm back in the game now having got the 690 going again.

Can we go with the cop car thing, but also understand that, the game is about you getting out and about on your bike, not dragging pictures from your library. If you have a historic picture you want to post, that's fine. but don't make out it's fresh and you don't get to set the next challenge

Next, as there was a pair of Mallards sat in the middle of the road just before taking this photo, your bike with a bird (avian, ftaod) in shot.

I've got a challenge for anyone near Nettlebed*, St Bartholemew's churchyard. :D

Somewhere in it there's a gravestone of blacksmith William Strange with an inscription that starts -

'My sledge and anvil lie declined, my bellows too have lost their wind; my fire's extinct, my forge decay'd'

It's quite famous in the sense that the verse is in the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations and I'd like an image of it. Can I find one? Nope, this Interweb thing is just rubbish, I thought everything was supposed to be on it.

So, if you happen to be passing...... :D

Prize is you get to be king/queen of the Internet for a week.

There's a few about, does it have to specifically be that one?

A few from a quick look:

Epitaph memorial to a blacksmith at the yard of Lloyd, stonemasons, in the Wiltshire village of Great Bedwyn, England, UK

https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-epita ... 11635.html

ALEXANDER SHEARMAN’S STONE
He was the Village Blacksmith

Image

To be more specific, John was laid to rest at St Mary’s Church, which is the oldest building in Cheltenham, dating from the mid 11th century. Much of the churchyard was cleared in the 1950s (a frequent and heart-breaking history for many burial grounds), so only around 50 headstones survive to this day. According to the Friends of St Mary’s, two other curious epitaphs were sadly lost during this period of clearance:

John Paine, Blacksmith, died 1796
My sledge and hammer lies inclined,
My bellows pipe have lost its wind,
My fire’s extinct, my forge decayed,
And in the dust my vice is layed,
My coal is spent, my iron’s gone,
My nails are drove, my work is done.

That would be my bike in the usual parking space at the Sagebrush & would look exactly like the last pic I posted, except I'm not riding this weekend.

Thanks Hoss, that's the whole verse. I didn't realise it was a standard for blacksmiths but it makes sense and I thought I'd seen something similar in the Thursley churchyard. I'm interested in the shape of the one in Nettlebed though. ie is the top of it ^ shaped and does it have sticky-out bits on the side?

Love that last link....john-higgs-pig-killer. :o

(The reference I'm following up on is the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations that specifically mentions William Strange at Nettlebed).

Not a great picture as the sun is out and in the wrong place.

A well is going to be a challenge, it's not something that there's much of a need for in East Anglia

There's one in my 'front' garden, 140' Victorian job (we're at the top of a hill 😱). I feel like that would be cheating though 😆

I hope this counts.
I'm pretty sure it is, or at least was a well. But it was very difficult to get the bike and the well in shot ..

If you zoom a little you can see the 'well' in the top pic kinda inline with the mirror !?
