It's looked like it's on life support for years. It was quite a shock to see it a couple of years ago.

Used to be able to go inside it when I was a kid. Took the missus to see it in the 70s or early 80s and you could still get inside it in then.

Then they roped it off and put props under the branches. It looked rather sad really.

There's another veteran not far from it.

I remember going to see it on a primary school trip, I'm sure you could go inside. I remember it being on fire too.

Eldest lives in that neck of the woods (ha) and a few years ago when I was over,the tree looked well knackered. I was disappointed not to be able to touch it.

Coming from Nottingham myself, that's sad news.
I've sat inside it as a kid before it was fenced off.
