Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
We don't get them because not enough people buy them to make them worth importing
There's only you and me want them, you want the faired, I want the unfaired, and neither of us would part with the £15K they'd cost.

I like them too. Would they do a special deal for 3 of us?

I think you're right.
At current exchange rate the faired one is £13,339.84 , so £15k officially imported is probably about right.

I was only looking at the Honda.jp website cos Yoshimura shared this on Friendface...

The 13's too big, too bulky. I've happily have a 600 version. 80 horses, weight under 200 kg, and I'd be in at a reasonable price. But it'll never happen - too expensive building four cylinder motors for budget bikes.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
I bet Honda have made the R&D costs back hundreds of times over on the JDM CB400, they've been making them pretty much the same since the 90's.
Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
True, then again my current air(ish) cooled 900 only churns out 65, if the 80 came in a similar fashion, with a nice low down short shifty push then I think it could be a nice lazy way to make progress on a sunny Sunday.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 8:44 pm But the aircooled 1100 motor only makes 80bhp or something.

I do like the look of the CB1100RS (more so than the EX), but the reviews are less than flattering.ajlog wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 8:58 pmTrue, then again my current air(ish) cooled 900 only churns out 65, if the 80 came in a similar fashion, with a nice low down short shifty push then I think it could be a nice lazy way to make progress on a sunny Sunday.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 8:44 pm But the aircooled 1100 motor only makes 80bhp or something.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
Mine was a K reg, 92 I think, they went VTEC in the late 90s and then got the bodywork they have now in 2004ish, and I don't think there have been any changes since then, they're not a cheap bike either, I think they'd be about £6K if they sold them in the UK, which is a lot for a 400, but you're getting a 4 cylinder bike that's made in Japan with Nissin 4 pot calipers and other good quality components.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 8:56 pm I bet Honda have made the R&D costs back hundreds of times over on the JDM CB400, they've been making them pretty much the same since the 90's.

I seriously considered one when I bought my Suzuki, it was the same price and lower mileage, I'm surprised I bought the Suzuki.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 9:00 pmI do like the look of the CB1100RS (more so than the EX), but the reviews are less than flattering.ajlog wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 8:58 pmTrue, then again my current air(ish) cooled 900 only churns out 65, if the 80 came in a similar fashion, with a nice low down short shifty push then I think it could be a nice lazy way to make progress on a sunny Sunday.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 8:44 pm But the aircooled 1100 motor only makes 80bhp or something.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
I keep looking at the muscle bikes on t'bay.
CB1300's are fetching top dollar.
Naked ZRX1200's are going for really fucking stupid money.... the faired ones, not so much.
GSX1300's are silly money.
XJR1300's seem sensible, but there's a lot of them about and they were made for a very long time, but imho they just don't look as cool as the others.
Cheesey, why do the Suzuki fanboi's love the old EFE's so much, what's special about them?

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
My Dad had a brand new CB1300 some time in the mid 00s. I remember two things about it quite clearly; The seat was massive and the red paint was really nice.
There seem to be a few about like this, they seem to have that big expensive Honda build quality thing going on.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
EFEs are the last of the roller bearing cranked Suzukis, they have a very strong crank and can make big power.
Apart from that I can't think of any reason to own one, the older twin shock bikes handle better, and they've got the same frame as a 1978 GS1000.
The EFE carbs are good, but nothing special, I've got a set tucked away, later GSX teapot carbs are better.
So I don't know why they love them.
Almost forgot to say, avoid high mileage ones as the gearbox is a bit weak for the power and the gears wear out.
And the engines can be very expensive to rebuild, a GPZ1100 is a much cheaper engine to rebuild (so long as you don't use Kawasaki pistons)

The Holy Grail CB1300's are the late model red framed ones, there's none on t'bay.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 9:33 pm My Dad had a brand new CB1300 some time in the mid 00s. I remember two things about it quite clearly; The seat was massive and the red paint was really nice.
