Commute commuted and the top box worked a treat Carrying all my stuff out this morning I reckon it weighed best part of 5kg and all horrible stuff to land on if it went wrong so yeah sod rucksacks and even strapping a Kriga on would be a faff as I'd need to put down some protection for the back end as the seat is the size of a postage stamp. As it was I slung my bag in the box and forgot about it. Duffed up a 'yoot' on a KTM 125 Duke complete with LOUD baked bean can exhaust who was styling it up during filtering. I hope he felt suitably chastened being shown up by a 45 year old with a top box of power
Got to work and nothings fallen off yet so hopefully I did it all properly (fingers crossed)

Its part of why I have a top box TBF, deffo something I consider.
The wrong thing if your backpack can easily turn a hefty bruise into a paralysing spinal injury.

You used to be able to get a ruck sack with a back protector built in that went between you and the stuff in the back pack, I can't remember who made it, as the stuff I need to carry to work consists of a laptop and I'd rather have my car covered in sea gull shit than my bike, I won't worry about it.

Not when I broke 3 ribs in 2007 landing on a rucksack with a book and lunch box in it. 3 inch thick paperback spine was was completely creased by my ribs and it fucking hurt. For 2 months, every day, most breaths, sitting down and lying down were agony and sneezing was torture. So yeah it's defo part of my thinking about carrying things now, as much as possibly I don't want anything on me.

I smashed my arm to buggery in the crash too but I know there is nothing I can do about that so don't worry. I broke my humerus and there is no protection for that so I have to take that risk and accept it. But my ribs/back I can possibly make a difference to so why not? I choose to wear armoured jeans, leather jacket, boots, gloves and back protector hoping they 'might' make a difference. They might not but I can try. After all if you go down the shit can happen route I might as well wear pants and nowt else on the cases I can 'don't crash' surely?
As for ankles even the TCX trainers I'm wearing today have some ankle protection and generally I wear boots for added protection so already doing what I can there.

3 firsts for the GSX.
1.Work commute home with loads of traffic/filtering. Pretty good in the traffic seeing as I'm used to kids bikes from the last 6 years, nicely balanced and plenty of grunt for gaps.
2.Passed 1000 miles
3. Rode in the rain. Dry forecast my arse. Nothing but traffic till the A1, 2 miles before Welham Green turn off where the fun starts it rains properly. So boring direct route home.
