I don't spend a lot of time riding in mud, I spend more time on sand, it was just amazingly bad for a small part of the ride yesterday, my mates Cube managed much better, though his has 27.5 wheels and different tyres, but both of us ended up with front wheels that wouldn't turn because they were stuck with mud, resulting in a mile of push until stops, clear the mud out and repeat, it took us about 30 minutes to do that mile.

But only because they look like a Bridgestone Enduro motorcycle tyre I used to use that worked really well

But I maybe basing my choice in bicycle tyres too much in what I know works with motorcycle enduro tyres

So for a compromise of a sand/mud tyre you probably want to keep the volume to 'float' on the sand so you're best looking for the 2.6 with the widest spaced knobs you can find to aid clearing but sticky clay is sticky clay and if it's no fun just go a different way

I probably live in the only place in Britain where you can go from sand to clay in under a mile, though I'm sure that's not the case and other people must have the same very minor problem

With trail motorcycles I always went for a sand tyre as I rode far more in sandy forests than anywhere else, with an EMTB I ride far more mixed surfaces.

2.4 Kenda Gran Mudda on the front and 2.25 Michelin Wild Mud (though I think they're now called Enduro Mud). The Michelin knobs are supposed to flex more as they are at an angle to the direction of travel, which means they shake off the mud better and it does seem to work, only really clogging with that really nasty chalk/clay mix we get in places on the Sarf Dahns.

We get that as well, but that's a bit further west of where I was riding yesterday, there's a couple of old chalk quarries and an old cement works, apparently it was perfect for cement production because the chalk and clay were so close to each other.

That looks worse than what we get, that is pretty much wet cement
