The mighty Duster has bags of torque, which is ace off road. And a stupidly low first gear which is great on the gnarly stuff.

Well they would if you actually saved the difference in a spare account, for both tax and tank, but none of us put the £3 or £5 in a spare account in reality do we.

Well...I put a regular chunk into a "car/bike repair savings" account very month by standing order, I wouldn't have the money available to do that if I were spending it all on fuel.

I've setup an additional savings account into which I'm dumping the value of the wife's car allowance and her mileage claim every month.
When it's equal to the outstanding balance of the loan we took out to purchase it, it'll get paid off.

Power is completely and utterly irrelevant to me, i'm not a car person at all. The QQ has more than the Mondeo had, by a lot.... but i don't care in honesty. I don't do over 70mph and rarely break the speed limits by more than a couple of mph in the car anyway. I think the QQ may have the 130bhp engine, but i've not honestly checked on the spec/performance.
True. I quit smoking about 15 years ago and saved a fortune by not having to buy smokes every day, but I've never been better off for it!
When I had my CBR600 nicked, we went down town to get another.
Saw the RF900 which we loved, but price was out of our budget.
So we went hone and worked out how much we spent on cigs.
Then how much could save by smoking roll ups.
Just over £200 a month.
Then back into town and got a price to finance the RF900.
£200 a month.
It arrived a few days later.
Whenever the wife moaned about rolling ciggies, I told her to look in the back garden

Thought I'd chuck it in here.
My mates had one of these for 6 months now, he loves it. Big car for luggage, petrol, £30 tax, and goes very well he says. Very nice inside with the touch screen doing everything, radio, heater etc. They're 3 cylinder 1200s and tick many boxes. Definitely on my list.

Doesn't look like it has any more ground clearance than a Mondeo though.

My mate loves it. Ye, its french and ye, that's generally very bad, but it's a peugeot, it's the other 2 you should never be seen near. . He's had no trouble, great on petrol and lot's of room. He said he could easily sleep in the back with a matt or summot. Really nice inside.
But it ain't no 4x4.

I've had two Fronch cars.
The 406 had load of electrical toys, none of them worked, I had to unlock the door with the key, FFS.
The VTR Saxo went for a service and the dealer reckoned it needed £1200 worth of work to get through the first MOT (I fixed it all for a tenner).

French cars were my favorites for years, mainly cos I could sell them easily. The Citroen Xantia was, well, still is, one of my favorite family hatchbacks of all time. Something about the ergonomics that I just found so comfortable. But in later years they [French cars] seem to have lost something with an appalling amount of problems? I hear they have upped their game in the reliability worked in recent years though? Also, they seem to have got as garish as Jap cars with their dashboards?

The 406 was the most comfortable car I'd owned (until the SL), but nothing electrical worked in it. It was the 2l petrol used in the Xantia.

Xantias were a good tow car back in the day. I had a 406 1.9 diesel and cooking oil a few years back, used for towing caravan. Not much power but kept going, dash didn't work.
