Currently on Netflix: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4068576/
"Set in 1825, Clare, a young Irish convict woman, chases a British officer through the rugged Tasmanian wilderness, bent on revenge for a terrible act of violence he committed against her family. On the way she enlists the services of an Aboriginal tracker named Billy, who is also marked by trauma from his own violence-filled past."
Wasn't exactly a laugh-a-minute film. Brutal and sweary and a change from the usual.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12037194/
I'd be peeved if I'd paid money to watch it / 10
Not totally terrible, and some nice nods to the cinematography of the original MM films, but does nothing to further or add to the MM universe.

OK so it's no Layer Cake or Snatch, but it is a decent British gangsta film, well worth watching

I got the original film on DVD from Amazon after reading the book - which is v good. (Some say the film is better than the book).MrLongbeard wrote: Sun Jul 13, 2025 12:25 am A man Called Otto.

Haven't seen the American version.

The Nighringale - on Netflix at the moment.
It’s about the early 1800s in Tasmania. Pretty hard to watch and bleak in places.

I thought A Man Called Ove was much better tbh. The guy does grumpy in a much more believable way.MrLongbeard wrote: Sun Jul 13, 2025 12:25 am A man Called Otto.

Nessie. Stupid, predictable and poorly acted and i was surprised to see John Michie in such a role. I stuck with it for the scenery. By Christ Scotland is beautiful!

Just watched Priscilla Queen of the Desert (for the 2nd time....the missus has watched it several more!).
It's one of those films that you think 'bunch of drag queens off to perform in Alice Springs, on a bus called Priscilla, with Agent Smith/Elrond, Terence Stamp and the chap from Memento'???
It's hilarious.

Finally got round to watching 'Conclave'.
Topical. Pope dies, chaps in frocks choose a new one. It's not exactly plot heavy but it's very cinematic and the main characters v well cast. (Apparently there's a bit more plot in the book).
The final vote/outcome seemed a bit preposterous and the ultimate mcguffin was a tad ridiculous. The more I thought about it though it was no more preposterous than the whole, real circus.

Oppenheimer.
Was ok, but couldn't really get excited about it.
Plus it was too long and, typical for a Nolan film, there were times when the cast mumbled their lines, then fuck me the music and effects kick in and it's THIS LOUD. Then back to mumbling...

The Fantastic Four: First steps
I'm going to go against the grain and say, I didn't like it. I found it boring. And considering the movie starts with them having been the FF for 4 years, the subtitle makes no sense.
Superman
Good fun.

Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning
7.3 times better than the last offering, but still way over egged, there was a good 30 - 45 minutes that should have been left on the cutting room floor.
With luck the franchise will bow out gracefully and not have to suffer reboots or character films.

Ballerina.
John Wick lite, but now with hollywood unlimited ammo / 10.
The first 2 JW films were soooooo good, why do they have to try and build franchises and kill off all that was good.
