Plus, in the last decade the over-the-counter cost of postage for Joe Public seems to have gone through the roof, making items you sell feel like not very good value at all when vendors on other platforms can offer free or flat-rate postage. If my purchaser needs to factor in the some extortionate postage then they'll be prepared to pay me proprtionally less - I may as well gift it, bin it, or leave it to rot in the cupboard.

Re: Have they ruined Ebay ??
I think I must have been part of a trial for this. I used to shift things on ebay a fair amount bu got sick of it - the hassle, rising fees etc.
I got a '3 month zero fees on anything' deal back at the start of the year & it worked. I put up a bunch of stuff that I'd either not bothered about before or forgotten about.
Can only think that they're hoping to bring back the private sellers to get more traffic from those who preferred ebay before it was just a marketplace for businesses, might well work.
They're also stopping daily payouts of selling balances after Oct 16th. Makes sense to me, too. Back when Paypal was the main / only payment method I'd often leave small balances in there to use for buying stuff off ebay, as I''m sure a lot of other people did too.
