You're there, I'm here, so I can live with that.Count Steer wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 9:31 am I like sprouts.

However, Mrs.G. also loves sprouts. One of her favourite dishes is sliced sprouts, pan fried in coconut oil, with a plain bit of cod cooked in the pan with the sprouts for the last couple of minutes. I can't articulate how nauseating I find the smell of that cooking.

ooooh - ya bugger - that got me thinking of fish-finger sandwiches.... graahrhrhahrahrahharrhahrahrrMrLongbeard wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 8:58 am These were Branston, Heinz got kicked to touch many moons ago.
If they were a regular staple I'd probably experiment with them, but as this was probably the first time this year it's not much of a loss to the menu, although I now have a hankering for fish fingers and beans.

There used to be a brand of baked beans that had no added sugar or sweeteners (Whole Earth rings a bell), but I've not been able to find any in decades. Possibly even millenia.
But I really hate the current trend of dumping vast amounts of sugar into what should be a savoury concoction. Big Sugar can go fuck itself. My go-to Baked Bean recipe used to be to add garlic puree, tomato puree and plenty of grated cheddar cheese to non-sweetened baked beans. On toast or however you fancy.

I love salad cream on salad etc. But hate mayo with a vengeance.
I love tuna sarnies but get filthy looks when I say no mayo.

Ditto, and tuna gets mixed up with salad cream for me rather than mayo

Wow, that's posh. We used to use it to make fish paste palatable. No wait, that's salad cream.

This thread has reminded me of sandwich spread, excellent to make crisp sandwiches.

Re: Salad cream ??? Marmite ??? What's your foodie weird things
Things I eat that normally turn up my dining companions noses are Octopus, Squid and rabbit. As a kid I used to eat baked beans, ravioli and macaroni straight from the tins. I hadn't them for years but recently got back into beans. Never liked Mayo until I tried the Polish stuff below. I dislike tomato ketchup, but would have the Polish one as it's got a hint of spice about it. I also buy Polish mustards. Basically, I try a lot of stuff from the Tesco world food aisle...

Give HP a miss. It's just sweet gunge compared with how it was. Give Stokes a try. In fact almost all the Stokes stuff is 'grown up' versions of the shite turned out by the usual suspects. The tom ketchup still needs a whack on the bottom of the bottle.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 10:55 amYou know, now I'm fifty I think I qualify as being old enough to give this brown sauce a try now

I had a side dish with my last Indian takeaway which included a Tamarind* sauce on the side. It was the most heavenly version of a brown sauce I've ever had.Count Steer wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 11:10 am Give HP a miss. It's just sweet gunge compared with how it was. Give Stokes a try.
