That's why the question occurred to me yesterday. While not 'as bad' as a sportsbike the vfr1200f I was riding yesterday is brilliant but it only gets fun when I'm really taking the piss speed wise. Incredible engine and great handling for a sports tourer and yet, pretty much like everything I've had for a while not actually giggle inducing fun at legal speeds.Bustaspoke wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 9:38 amIMHO,the most fun bikes are the one's that can be ridden flat out most of the time,it's one of the reasons that I've grown to love the SV650.
Back in the day I lusted over the early 4XV R1,but I knew it would be a matter of time before I got banned or had a 'incident' so I stayed clear.

Re: What bikes are just a lot of fun
I had this problem years back with a 916 Ducati,I preferred my FZ750
Have you tried a KTM 310? I've never rode one but I've heard that they're good fun & you could probably get to demo one.
Edit; You could also try a demo on a MT07,they have a rep as cheap/cheerful & fun

Riding on your own? Supermoto everytime
Riding with mates? It doesn't matter as long as your bikes are similar, you and 3-4 mates would have a right laugh if you were all on C90's

Re: What bikes are just a lot of fun
I've been reading a fair bit about these this morning...
The fun word comes up a lot and they look good value. I was looking at classic bikes a while back and the constant maintenance put me off. I can do it, I'm just not sure that I want to.

The 650 twin is a bit bland imho, way too Japanese.
My 500efi single has much more 'character'.
Sounds better on an open pipe too, dog slow tho'

You're wrong, SVs are dull, 4XVs are fun, utterly mental but fun, but it depends on your definition of fun, whether you want an adrenaline filled dance with death, or not.Bustaspoke wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 9:38 amIMHO,the most fun bikes are the one's that can be ridden flat out most of the time,it's one of the reasons that I've grown to love the SV650.

I rode an original SV when my R1 was being serviced, it was initially fun going through corners without slowing down much, but I was bored of it after a couple of hours.

Re: What bikes are just a lot of fun
Compared to a 4XV,or any other Superbike it is dull. When I bought it I found it dull compared to my Street Triple, but after a few months I noticed I was leaving the Street Triple in the garage & riding the SV650.Probably something to do with me sticking to the B roads & country lanes.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 12:46 pm

Back on topic, one of my mate's had a 650 Interceptor,I rode it for an afternoon,it was a nice bike but not my definition of fun,he also bought a RE 500 single & he loved that,in fact he regretted selling it & recently added a RE Bullet Classic 500 to his collection.

Re: What bikes are just a lot of fun
The one bike that made me want to ride like a total penis all the time was a KTM 990SM.
I only rode it for a couple of hours, but it encouraged you to do the most stupid things.
Back then if I'd bought one I'd probably be dead by now, I'm much more sensible now.

Re: What bikes are just a lot of fun
I had a 950SM but didn't keep it long. That KTM thing of loose front end type fun doesn't do it for me at all. It was no where near as bad as the gen1 1290 superduke though. Even with a decent steering damper it made me wonder if I was going to get back home in one piece sometimes.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 1:48 pm The one bike that made me want to ride like a total penis all the time was a KTM 990SM.

Re: What bikes are just a lot of fun
Supermotos obvs and pootling around on a scoot, small or maxi is great too.
Re: What bikes are just a lot of fun
I really, really rate lightweight and flickable over and above pretty much everything else.
The Street Triple was fantastic, I couldn't fault it.
The 390 Duke is bananas it's tiny, and flickable AF - and having such a small engine, I can rag the shit out of it without finding myself accidentally tanking into a corner far too fast in those moments of enthusiasm over talent - it's difficult (not impossible ofc), to overdo it, while at the same time being a shit-ton of fun.
I reckon if I'd had it as my first bike back in the day I'd have become a better rider sharpish.

A French import 125 ringading, possibly a TDR or DTR.
Full power, working ypvs (occasionally) and guaranteed to get your money back as the first spotty oik who's throws a leg over it and gives it some will come in their pants when it lifts in 2/3 gear

Reading this thread, I think you first need to know what you find fun.

There's a lot of fun to be had with some big brutal hairy arsed Kaw (he says, kicking himself for letting that GPz11 get away on the auction 30 minutes ago...)

I was mainly asking what bikes everyone else found fun, not necessarily suggestions for a bike that I might find fun.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 7:25 pm Reading this thread, I think you first need to know what you find fun.
