No, the looped ZX9 was ridden by Craig Tinsley and it was at a peage booth, not the ferry. I was standing about 50 feet away from it happening BITD. Can't remember if it was when Pulp Friction or Mach 1 was being filmed or for a magazine article. And AFAICR that ZX9 had a very hard and brief life in the hands of the magazine and a matter of a few days later ended up in a ditch near Cannes and gave rise to the immortal Jimmy Miller quote, knocking on the door of the house whose ditch the garden bordered, "mon motorbicylet c'est dans le jardin!".
The magazine was already having to borrow bikes from readers and dealerships* because they'd done so much damage to press fleet bikes crashing and colliding with each other and I think the ZX9 might have been the very last official bike they got (or it might have been Craig's own...I was doing a lot of drugs at the time....)
*that's how I got involved in the magazine, I had my ZX7R in for a service at a local Kawasaki dealership and the dealers had just had a call from Chiefy begging for the loan of a ZX7R for a shoot and I overheard this and was all fan boi about the magazine, being an avid reader, and the next thing I know I'm riding a brand new ZX7R down to Dover to meet up with the crew and ended up going with them all the way to Cannes and helping out and, once they discovered I could ride a bit, riding the camera bike and doing some fill in riding for the "names" wearing their kit. This was in the late 90's and carried on in one form or another until Chiefy sold the magazine. If you watch the Mach 3 video, with the ZX12R and Hayabusa, it's my own ZX12R for the second half of the video after Gary Mason dropped the original bike at low speed on some slush in the Swiss Alps and knackered the end of the crank.
