I assume everyone is aware of my love for potholes after being lucky to survive hitting one a few years ago so clearly not the biggest fan.
Managed to clip one I couldn’t avoid on Saturday (narrow country road with oncoming traffic so couldn’t swerve enough) while out in the go faster roller skate and felt the steering was funny so drove straight to tyre place just in case as modern cars don’t have spare wheels or jacks anymore.
Good job I did as this was a couple of minutes after pulling in

Tyre was split on the inner sidewall, rim was ok if you don’t count the kerb marks which magically appear when the wife drives it. Suspension seems ok as well

Funnily enough was just flicking through my phone and came across this pic - pothole on the M11 slip cost 2 AMG rims and 2 tyres!

I was in the volcanoes and got puncture from sharp rock in sidewall.
Couldn't get wheel off so had to drive to civilisation for signal.
I knew the engine would damage the front tyre, so put in 4WD to lessen the load.
When I got a signal, I found out that you have to partially undo all wheel nuts, then drive about 20 yards until wheel frees itself from the hub.

Wet winter, and shitty repairs haven't helped.
I stopped on a ride the other day - I thought the rear wheel bearings had gone. Everything checked out fine, so I can only assume it was the road surface.
I used to do pre-training season checks on the roads, and make adjustments if there was a particularly poor stretch I could bypass. Now, there are no good surfaces left.
I've lost count of how many tyres we've had to replace on the car.

Just had the good news that braking and hitting a pothole has fubared one of my front calipers, so new caliper plus discs and pads. Oh joy, I love living in s 3rd world country.

I received my first ever pothole related damage recently.
It's also the first time I've had a car with 19" wheels and 245 section low profile tyres.
I wonder if those things are related

You can generate enormous torques at the wheels with potholes and the like. The most onerous load case on a racing car drive shaft, by miles, is riding the kerbs on full power...the on/off/on/off/on/off nature of it as the wheel gains and loses grips easily exceeds what the engine can do on a smooth road by 100% or more.
Same goes for being on the brakes and encountered a sudden step change in grip.

The roads in (most of) Spain are very well maintained. Even the 8km cul-de-sac i live on gets repaired if it gets damaged by one of the lorries transporting the oranges away from the groves.

The roads around here are terrible. Cadiz/Jerez. Dunno why.

A side effect I've noticed ( particularly between Dane End and Buntingford when visiting rellies) is Range Rovers coming the other way on the wrong side of the road presumably because they are wary of going through a puddle in case there is a big pothole under the water.

I had a tyre losing pressure on my Arteon due to damage to the wheel. I got a wheel goon to brae is straight for 40 quid.That's the price you pay for rolling on sweet 20s.

Remember how, in the '70s, everyone drove Citroens with hydrolastic (?) suspension, because of the appalling state of French roads? Well the situation's reversed now, except that here it's 4x4s instead of Citroens.
Incidentally, I'm just back from a weekend's riding in Wales. Isn't Wales supposed to be poorer than England? If so, it's not reflected in the road surface quality. I noticed the difference as soon as I crossed the border.
