Accents. Have you got one?

My accent: Depends on who I'm talking too and if I've had a drink. Like chatting to mate from the same area as me, the New Forest, who now lives in Harrogate. After a pint or some we both sound like a couple of full on yokels.

My first proper job was in a call centre in Doncaster, taking stationery orders for a company called Neat Ideas if anyone remembers them, 2nd biggest at the time to Viking, got bought out by Staples.

South Lancashire accent here.
Within 20 miles of here in any direction the accents & dialects completely change.Head mainly East & it goes,Scouse,Wigan,Leigh,Manc,South it's all Scouse,North it's Lancashire then Preston or Blackburn.
When I was trucking people in Preston or over in Yorkshire thought I was scouse,When I worked in Leigh they called me half scouse. & scousers thought I was from Yorkshire
When I was trucking for a scottish firm they would often ask me to repeat what I'd said as they struggled with the accent,so I guess it's a broad accent,definitely not RP...

Certain female German accents have always been a fave of mine. Which works well, albeit in a distracting way, for me now

I can now hear quite clearly the difference in German regional accents too, but I've no chance telling you which one relates to which part of the fatherland.

When I get together with my old pals, our lass says I slip right back into full on accent and she says she can't tell a word we're all saying

I've heard a few times that call centres like having Geordie women on the complaints line. Apparently the most ammeanable accent.

Oh yeah,the Geordie accent has it going on. When I heard Cheryl Cole was a Geordie,then I knew she was perfect.

I'm originally from south east Wales - the accent was more Charlotte Church than Gavin and Stacey. 30 years living in Wolverhampton eventually changed that in to the flat Midlands accent that gremlin finds attractive. I've lived in the north east for the last 16 years but I've resisted the Geordie/Mackem/pityakker accent as much as I can, and people still identify my midlands accent - usually as Brummie, although it's definitely not.

Locally, in comparison, I have a 'posh' Black Country accent, which I appreciate is laughable, but compare my Sedgley (nr Wolverhampton) accent to a Gornal accent, and even non-locals will tell the difference

Muz's Geordie has definitely softened over the years he's been down (in South Staffordshire), with me, but I think the reverse is true too. And I use loads of Geordie words in a Midlands accent, which even I realise is odd
