FZR400RR full race system (copy of race kit pipe) gives it a top end boost at the expense of any power below 8000rpm, which doesn't matter because this still gives me 7000rpm to ride in, it is offensively loud but does pass noise testing at MSV circuits, I doubt if it would pass at Castle Coombe.
FZ750 Micron road system with oval race can, not that loud because it has a baffle at the end of the front pipes, possibly road legal, if I put a baffle in the can it's very quiet (for a 65,000 mile 30 year old bike) but it doesn't run properly at high rpm, without the baffle it runs better at high rpm but is a bit poor below 4000rpm - but as I don't ride round at under 4000rpm this doesn't matter.
Z1170R noisyish Vance and Hines, but it doesn't matter because it's currently sulking with blocked pilot jets.

I have a loud pipe on my Street Triple, as I use it mostly to commute into London I figure it gives me that little bit of extra presence.
Back in the day, I was riding along the A40 in gridlock, on my way to pick up my R6 from it's service. I had a loan R1 with standard pipe and no bugger moved over to let me filter. Once I had my R6 with loud pipe back, I had to get back into the same gridlock on the A40 again, this time though traffic parted ahead of me. So, because of this, I am a firm believer in loud pipes. I don't necessarily believe in the saving lives aspect, but I do think it can help in making people aware of you.
If the majority of my time was spent in country lanes and villages, I'd probably stick with stock pipes as I wouldn't want to annoy the locals. But the 'locals' in London are all twats, so fuck 'em.

Road legal Leo Vince on the 690 but its pretty quiet as the silencing happens in the cat. Happy to fly under the radar. To be fair I wouldn't have bought it if Weeksy hadn't of been selling it

Yeah I'd agree. All I see is Yoots on 125s with baked bean can straight throughs which are ear splitting as well as totally shit sounding. But at 17 thats Lit. Some stock cans are horrible. Great huge eyesores on one side of bike. Some brands look great, it all depends.

I have an 1100 Monster with a standard exhaust.
It's heavy and not very pretty but it's not too quiet. Ducati, like H-D seem to be able to get away with noisy standard exhausts.
Almost every bike I've had in the last 20 years has had either OE or road legal exhausts

Have you got the full Micron system or have you retained the Yamaha downpipes? I have a Yoshi can and link pipe on my 2011 Fireblade.
It is too loud and I'd happily run it with the baffle in but if I do, the back pressure waves shatter the titanium sleeve.
I took it off and ran the stock exhaust for a foreign trip a few years ago but the performance loss was quite significant, so I put the Yoshi back on.

I’ve got a Trident stubby can on my Sprint. I got it cheap off eBay which swayed the deal a bit.
a. Because I like the sound.
b. It takes a tiny percentage of weight of a bloody heavy bike and every little helps.
c In my opinion it looks better and shows off the rear wheel and single sided swinging arm to better effect.
d. It’s easier to keep that area clean.

The race micron front pipes with no baffle are renowned for causing a big flat spot at 4000rpm, the other people I know with Microns on FZs can't believe how smooth my one is.

I can't remember why I swapped off the standard can - possibly it had rusted through. So I literally rode it back to back.
The Gixxer had a full race system on it, and that ran like an absolute pig despite a Dynojet kit and even after I put a road legal end can on it. I remember struggling to getting to the top of the Stelvio on a group ride and riding past the cafe where everyone else was stopping - the misfire had got so bad on way up, it would only run over 6000 rpm, which made hairpins interesting. I'd never have got the bike restarted at that altitude.

Got the 'official' noisy but road legal Lafranconis on my Guzzi Cali. The OE ones were whisper quiet which seemed sad. These are loud but not offensively so. All about the Bass! Not much chance of flying under the radar on something that looks like it fell off a Christmas tree anyway.

I've got the standard OEM fit Lafranconis on my V7, they're deffo fruiter than anything the Nips fit, but I'd like a little more.
Mistral's seem to be the go to pipe for modern Guzzi's.

I had an Italian plated V7 ride passed me when I was on lunch at work about 2 years ago and it sounded ace with loud pipes. Dunno what they were but loud without being horrible, unlike the tattoo shop owner over the road whos Harley which has pretty much no pipes and shakes the office windows .

I had a Laser on the FZ for a while but it was more restrictive than the Micron, sold it for what I paid for it.
A bigger issue with FZs running well is the rubbers between the carbs and the airbox, I bought a new set of these from Fowlers for £100.
