First time I rode them would have been about 1980 on my 400-F but I've also done Hardnott and Wrynose in a camper... no big deal. The only real problem was that one of the bridges had partly fallen away so there was precious little width of tarmac under the wheels at that point. I did get out to have a good look to check there was actually something solid under the tarmac before I drove onto it.

And I best not mention a certain blogger with the initials SS... Horse knows who!

I think Porlock Hill in Devon might be more difficult, but it's not super challenging either

I don't remember Porlock hill having a corner "that" tight (yes there's at least one hairpin, but it's relatively benign iirc).


I have fallen over on Porlock Hill in the past.... I stopped in the layby at the bottom and my foot slipped when I turned to look back down the road for the next rider in the group.

It's more that the road drops quite a lot on the inside of the hairpins, than the corner being tight, but both Porlock and Hardknott are fine so long as you don't need to stop, the Gap Road in the Black Mountains is harder than either.

Why on earth would anyone decide to take a motorhome up a pass like that? 'Just because I can/because it's there' does not qualify as a realistic answer.

We have one road with a hairpin like that. It's first gear, slipping the clutch & a dab going up.

No dramas this time but I'd imagine, anyone of a tall bike ( tip toe ) short arse could have trouble if you met a big car at the wrong time, gravel with dodgy camber type situ.
