Re: Too early for a Christmas grouch-like moan?
Well I’m working Xmas night and failed to get Mrs M and I seats at the local pub for lunch, this means MiL and FiL the Crypto “King and Queen” are angling for an invite to ours which I feel severely disinclined to acquiesce to as I really don’t want Mrs M running round after them whilst they “offer” to help and don’t all whilst I’m getting ready for work a run of 12 hr nights.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."

I'm hoping Mrs. G doesn't read this as she'll extend an invite and I'll find you sat at the table come Christmas day.

How will they be on their own if there are two of them?gremlin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 1:40 pmIt's a fair point.
However, I do get that she doesn't want to leave her dad on his own, which is admirable. In past years, she'd say the same about her brother and/or sister, depending on their marital/relationship status. Would I want to see them sat on their Jack with a microwave meal for one and sorry-looking paper hat? Probably not. I suspect this year Gremlinette's ex-girlfriend and her mum will be coming, as they will be on their own otherwise.
Christ, I'm reading what I've written and realise I sound like bloody Scrooge now.

They'll be alone together, obviously...McNab wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 3:23 pmHow will they be on their own if there are two of them?gremlin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 1:40 pmIt's a fair point.

Re: Too early for a Christmas grouch-like moan?
I managed to swerve the Christmas gathering last year and spent it on my own. I didn't tell many people beforehand as the arrangement suited me well.
I doubt I'll able to do the same this year.

My parents have decreed they can't be arsed this year and want just the two of them, almost in as many words
Last year they were volunteering at the Hospital and the year before that we hosted, so I dunno what their problem is

We have solved the Xmas issue this year, we are going to a hotel on Xmas Eve, and not leaving until the day after Boxing Day.

Re: Too early for a Christmas grouch-like moan?
I'm working all day this Christmas. Last year wasn't bad as my nephew was here but I didn't have the money for us to have a 'proper' fun Christmas - he was happy cos he was here, but I wanted to do so much more
It's weird here, but generally the best Christamses here were in the chalets because I got to cook a full turkey dinner for anything from 6 - 14 people!!
The absolute best was the year that some friends were looking after a chalet but it wasn't rented to Christmas week - a group of waifs and strays all got together and I cooked. That was one of the best ever
This year I'll either be in the office all day or, probably, doing airport transfers! But, NEXT year I won't be whinging cos Christmas will be on a day I won't be working (probably) and hopefully my niece will be over
For now, I cant quite get the grouch-like moan on too much, cos even when I'm working, I still live on a snow covered mountain when it's Christmas
