Re: How Old Are You - Really?
I was 62 in July & I'd say that I've slowed down a lot in the last few years but still out there riding motorbikes, cycling walking & enjoying the outdoors.
The Covid lockdown changed things for me,before the lockdown most Saturdays would be spent mountain biking until mid afternoon, then get home have a shower, something to eat & get the train into Liverpool to meet my boozing mates.During the lockdown the woman who I did most mountain biking with died from leukemia,(she got ill the year before lockdown) & we weren't allowed to go to the pubs so I got out of the boozing habit & when lockdown finished I wasn't really interested in going out on the MTB or on beer sessions anymore..
Most people think I'm younger than I am & people who haven't seen me for a few years say that I'm looking well for my age,but I don't snowboard, rockclimb or go to gigs any more & the last time I rode the MTB was February.
I managed to take early retirement in February & thought that I'd be doing a lot of traveling again, but I've been quite happy bimbling along around here, however I've been looking at ferry prices again so I might need to dust of the passport soon.

63 1/2 according to my birth certificate
12 according to my sense of humor
24 when attempting to do any manual work... which leads to:
80 according to my body.

Re: How Old Are You - Really?
53, and I look and feel every single second of it!!!
As soon as I hit 50 I started struggling, physically and mentally. It may have been a placebo effect of turning 50?
All my joints are fucked, probably some replacements due at some point due to years of contact sports and riding big motorcycles in work despite having short arse legs. Shift work since the age of 18/19 doesn't help either.
So I'll amend my first statement. I'm 53 but don't feel a day over 70.

Re: How Old Are You - Really?
54 next month and feel as young as ever (35 I guess) until I've been sitting down for more than 20 minutes and try to get up quick. I'm ok once I get going again.
I need less sleep than I used to, which is nice.

Re: How Old Are You - Really?
58. But I have the active mind and physical prowess of a 55 year old.
I went to the shops earlier (on an MTX125) and was becoming exasperated with the doddery old fucker in front of me at the checkout fiddling with bags and things, searching for his wallet like it was a complete surprise that he had to pay for stuff. Realised that said DOF was, if anything, younger than me only more beige (in clothing and general demeanour, his skin was translucent white.) I think some people are just born grown up and old.
I can't play rugby anymore. I avoid driving or riding at night when I can because my eyes don't adjust as quickly as they used to and modern headlights dazzle like fuck. Old injuries ache when it's cold and damp. But not enough that it stops me wearing shorts all year round or doing anything. I'm learning bass, writing a book, and gradually putting back together my old 600 Pantah. Fuck yeah!

I know the feeling. I am 77, and still reasonably compis mentis (although I have had the odd senior moment). Even 10 years ago in Citizens Advice I got old farts complaining they couldn't learn 'new stuff' like computers - the fact that computers had been around for 30 years seems to have missed them. Most of them were younger than me, but I did preen myself a bit when some old biddy of about 60 said "Thank you young man".
I honestly believe that if you don't use it, you lose it. Works on muscles and brain cells.

The day you stop learning is the day you effectively die.
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

You don’t stop *living to the full because you get old, mangocrazy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2023 9:21 pm The day you stop learning is the day you effectively die.
You get old because you stop *living to the full
*riding bikes, dancing etc etc etc
Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!!

Re: How Old Are You - Really?
Birth certificate says 54, with the puerile sense of humour of a 13 year-old.
According to the doc, I have the heart and lung function of a 30 year-old. According to the same doc, I have the prostate function of an 80 year-old. My toes and knees are fucked (probably arthritis, who knows?)
I'm gonna stick my neck out and say I'm a young 54 year-old. I'm in reasonable health, I take care of myself, I dress reasonably well and care about my appearance. I'm currently listening to a playlist featuring Keanler, Regard, James carter and Panski. I even use hair product and facial moisturiser, FFS.
I know people of my age who seem to have turned into 'old men' as soon as they hit 50, spending their time criticising their kids, any post-90's music, road works and traffic, etc, etc. Depressing.

If challenged (in life in general I mean, not specifically regarding my age) I like to use a combination of Krav Maga and Capoeira to subdue any opponents. Then acknowledge the audience.

Wait, hang on...! Are we not supposed to do that?
Jeez, I'm fucked
I'm 50. Which is depressing on many levels, not least that I was in my 20s when I started posting on the previous, previous place.

I was 39 when started on the MCN site, just before Copius jumped ship and started VD.
