It's completely different to the sports bikes ,the mt09, and street triple which I owned previously, but on the roads I like to ride on ,bumpy back lanes ,b roads and green lanes its far better than any of them.
Horses for courses and all that.
The new 900 has an extra 20 odd horsepower which I wouldn't turn down 😂👍
I think you'll find its an extra 10 hp.
Not sure bud, the 2015 f800gs is supposed to have 85 horses ,and the new 900 has been quoted as 105.
The 10 hp bump is over the 2018 engine, which presumably was more powerful than the one that came before. From various sources incl https://www.fastbikesmag.com/2023/09/08 ... -f-800-gs/... presumably all taken from a BMW press release as they are word for word identical:

"The advanced 2-cylinder in-line engine introduced in 2018 with the F 850 GS provides increased riding dynamics, thanks to the increased capacity 895 cc (previously 853 cc). In the F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure it puts out 77 kW (105 hp) and in the F 800 GS 64 kW (87 hp). In addition to a significant increase in peak power of 10 hp each, the new engines are also characterised by a much fuller torque curve, increased pulling power and faster acceleration."
"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer." Henry David Thoreau

It's pointless trying to keep up with R1s and gixxers and do 150+mph down speed camera vanned a roads because it simply can't do it which should help keep me alive, keep me out of prison and keep my licence.
However I feel it can still get a bit of a wriggle on down twisty b roads where the low end torque plays in its favour and I can easily keep up with sportier bikes until it gets to silly speeds.
I've not done too much "proper" off road on it though because like you say they are heavy. Scared myself a few times if I'm honest. It's good fun on gravelly unpaved roads and dirt tracks though .
I do still consider buying an enduro bike AND a sportier bike instead sometimes as well though.
What bike are you riding at the moment out of interest?
I did that when went from a Zx636 that I was riding like a twat everywhere so went down the GS1150 route as I had seen a few I knew on them hunting sports bikes on twisty bumpy roads and the top speed of a realistic 110 instead of 165 was a factor. Rode that for a few years them started to hanker after some more so ended up with the Multi which is a Superbike engine in an upright chassis so stupid fast but comfy all the way ;)
