Does that kind of thing annoy people? Being pulled for things like small plates, loud exhausts? On one of the MT owners pages I'm on, they're forever having a go at the police about this kind of thing.

If evrythings legal there's no point in the fuzz pulling up people,but some people think they're a bit 'special' & the law doesn't apply to them. So long as this attitude persists it's easy pickings for the police so they'll carry on issuing tickets & hitting their targets.When motorcyclists start fitting legal plates & stop modifying their exhaust systems the police will stop pulling them as they won't be able to prosecute people so they'll move on to the next source of revenue.

The Guardia Civil over here are bustards. There are road stops/checks every week. Luckily we have a huge Watsapp group to warn everyone.

I got pulled about a year ago. They were pulling at random.
He saw the GSXR1000 had no rear reflector then stopped looking. Could have been bald tyres and pissed and carrying drugs.

Sorry, that wasn't meant as a pop at you, Col. It is actually a good road in good scenery but it's become its own worst enemy in some ways. I'm not sure where you live, but I'm in Sheffield, right on the edge of the Peak District and we're really spoiled for choice for good biking roads. The best ones are the little B roads that join little villages. Some days I just go out with a mission to try roads I've never been down before. I nearly always find one or two that get filed away for future reference.

The A6 from Buxton to Matlock was superb in the early 90s, I've no idea why there are loads of speed cameras on it now, but you can get a GSXR750F to hit the rev limiter in top gear on some of the down hill bits.

The Cat and Fiddle pub was closed back then, I'm not that keen on the road tbh, via Gellia or Ashbourne to Buxton are loads better, but I suspect the days of big speeds in the Peak District are long gone, it was all a bit race pipes at dawn when I lived in Sheffield.

Yes, on the main roads like the A6 it's blanket 50mph limits with speed cameras dotted about. The Cat and Fiddle has had average speed cameras all along it for years now, plus a regularly heavy police presence. I just stick to the little B roads, which are twistier and slower, so the opportunities to pin it are far less. These days I don't really get off on mega-mph, I generally prefer having my fun the Captain Sensible side of 100mph, although I do succumb on the odd occasion. It's one of the reasons I bought the Duke 690; at much above 90mph you're starting to resemble a sail, but in the 0 to 80mph range it's an absolute hoot.

The point being to make it place riders wouldn't bother going to, they could go and crash, or be disruptive, elsewhere.

I'm near Congleton, so the cat road or the Buxton A54 are my gateways to the Peak really. You're absolutely right though, lots of hidden gems in the area.

If you're going South to North, it's uphill and a bit blind. The street view doesn't really show how bad it is.

Yes, that makes sense now. In the late 90s I lived in Stafford and was on a contract in Knutsford for about 3 years and when I did the commute on the bike I tried to avoid the motorway and use A and B roads. Congleton was always a bit of a momentum stealer. I never found a way to get through it to my satisfaction. But then I was an impatient sod...

These days I pop back to Stafford fairly regularly and I've worked out a really good route back from Sheffield. It's pretty much all nice twisty stuff apart from getting out of Sheffield, Bakewell, a bit of Ashbourne and Uttoxeter.

Rode that on Sunday Not for the first time. The straight at the beginning is fun Basically a big loop out to Ladybower via Millers Dale, Tideswell and Bradwell. Then after the above road back via Woodhead, then across to Glossop (the B6015 section is great), then home via Chapel-en-le-Frith and Macc.

There was a tv prog years ago about policing the M25.

Long time since I've been stopped by the cops, quite happy to be stopped for genuine reasons, but when they stop people for riding in inappropriate clothing they can gtf - I can hit 50mph on a push bike wearing lycra shorts (not a great look I admit).
The Guzzi has a 6 digit plate & dB killers in the "not for road use" race pipe, so might actually be interesting to see what happened if they did pull me.

The Akras on my Falco had a 'not for road use' or similar warning stencilled onto the aluminium straps holding the end section on. A mate of mine drilled out the rivets, ran the straps through his English wheel so the direction of curvature was reversed, then riveted them back on with the stencilling facing the can. An elegant and very effective solution, methinks.

I did have to fit db killers though. My normally deaf MoT tester told me it was taking the piss. It was a fair cop...

I've not been pulled by the Rozzers in a long time, nearly 20 years. Tempting fate of course! That's despite having anything between "a bit loud" and "comedy loud" pipes. Both times I was pulled it was actually on a pretty non-offensive bike, they said nothign about the bike itself and only commented on my (too fast) riding.

I have to say, I did spend a week up in the Peaks last month (with the fam-a-lam in the car). I can see why the police take an interest, there was some properly shocking riding on display. Must be a magnet for dickheads. And mango
