Are you sure about that? :)

Zundapp? Ossa maybe? Kreidler?

What about Jawa? They weren't that rare but still pretty unusual. Simpson? Tomos? I remember seeing them in Woolworths for £249.99.

I did help restore a Scott when I was at school. (Flyer iirc, I think it was a 600cc watercooled twin). I say 'restore' but it can't have been that old but even so it was a complete strip down so the frame could be stove enamelled so it must have had a hard life!

Oh yeah...I had a P&M.

I know someone with a couple of Bridgestones, a 175 and a 350
As I recall they were marketed as a 'premium' product; i.e they were a fair bit more expensive than your run of the mill Hondas, Yamahas and Suzukis. And they didn't have much of a dealer network. The Kawasaki Avenger 250 and 350 (disc valve 2T) models were of the same era and very tasty.
I know someone else with an Avenger 250, it's the only one I've ever seen.

I was working at the local Kaw shop several years ago & some bloke showed up looking for A1 head gaskets. He was racing an A1-R at Willow for the vintage bash.
Thought he'd be SOL for parts.
I look up the part # & go the filing cabinet where we kept all the gaskets, in those hanging files.
Found 7

Me: Yeah we have some, how many ya want?
A1-R bloke: All of them!

Me: Want me to order some more?
Boss: I've had those ones about 40 years, so I think not...

I had one.

Well, more accurately: "I've ridden one" ;) Customer arrived at the shop, I admired it, he gave me the key. Never met him before!

 Starting it was fun - as an 8.5st, 17 year old. The process involved turn fuel on, set choke, set ignition advance/retard, flick valve lifter. Leap in air and apply 8.5st to kick start. If this failed check valve lifter had not reset, leap in air etc...

(If the valve lifter lever had flipped back and I didn't notice it could cough and flirt me back up in the air :D ).

[Hushed Tones] And here we see a rivet counter emerging from hiding and starting to engage with his foe [/HT]

There was a slew of North American motorcrossers using Rotax engines, ATK was one, had a funny rear brake IIRC.

I didn't own it but I was chair monkey on a Weslake engined Wasp outfit.

OI!

:D

I'd not heard of a bike called a "JAP", and I'm not sure if there were any bikes made under the J.A.P. brand name, (except for collaborations like Excelsior J.A.P.) so I'm just seeking clarity here!
