I really like my Suzuki, but I could like the XSR more, so I need to test ride one, as I could hate it.
My bike buying list is
Honda CB1000R
Kawasaki Z900RS
Suzuki GSX-S 1000
Yamaha XSR900
If they all cost the same the Honda would win, but they're all a bit odd looking, none of them give me that "I must have that" feeling, or even that "I want that" feeling.
I also wonder if the reason I'd buy the Honda is because of the concept 80s styled CB1000 that Honda made a few years ago.

Your car is done at 100k miles ? Surely you applied your bike buying logic to your car and bought a reliable appliance in which case it’ll be fine. ?

I very nearly bought one over the MT. I like the black on with red details. Add in the fly screen and I think it's a cool looking bike. Ultimately I was put off by the seat, it didn't feel good on my arse when I sat on it.

You shoulda said, you could have ridden mine last week if you wanted to try one. I really liked Weeksy's XSR to ride, it was a great bike. That engine is a peach and the new one has even more go. The MT09 I rode (2nd gen) felt odd, not sure if it was that individual bike or not, but it felt just not quite right. The GSXS felt much better to me in comparison.

The gen 2 is really tall at the front. Not sure of the XSR of that generation was different. Headstock on the gen 3 is 30mm lower. So a big change in the geometry overall. It is still a very upright supermoto riding position though.
The new XSR is longer than the MT, using the Tracer swingarm. It has lower bars too, thanks to the narrow tank it has shorter risers. So it feels a bit sportier than the MT.

I've been out on the Suzuki this morning, it's staying, no reason to change it, it does everything I want a bike to do.

The one I rode was, yeah, just a bit odd. In comparison the GSXS handled like it was on rails, really planted, nice turn in etc. Felt like a sportsbike with flat bars. I think I really do need to get myself a test ride on the latest XSR900. It ticks a lot of boxes for me. But those bar end mirrors really would have to go. That's a deal breaker, mainly cos I couldn't get it down the alley way between the terraced houses without scratching them to shit. But also because they look gash.
And no, I'm not moving.
The round headlight removes one of the styling points I dislike about the MT-09 and I like little touches like the ability to raise footrest positions. And it sounds like Yamaha have finally nailed the steering geometry compared to earlier models.

I'd seen the pictures and thought it was worse than the earlier model, but irl it looked quite nice. I'd never buy one though, prefer the MT.

Yep, a whole 1.9hp more go in stock trim from an extra 50cc.
