Roads are too shit for sports cars these days, wife's SLC has knackered funny suspension and it's only done 20k

What do you want to achieve... recreate some aspect of being young that you either lived or missed out on, be part of a 'scene', do you want it to look the part or drive in an entertaining way or some combination of these?
If you like the big bmws and mercedes I assume it's the look the part option where the 'part' is 'tragic golf bastard'

I'm struggling with this, I think it's about time I had a mid life crisis but I can't think of anything I feel I missed out on or want to go back to.dern wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2023 7:02 pm What do you want to achieve... recreate some aspect of being young that you either lived or missed out on, be part of a 'scene', do you want it to look the part or drive in an entertaining way or some combination of these?

Ignore the midlife crisis bit then and just get something you fancy.Mussels wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2023 8:07 pmI'm struggling with this, I think it's about time I had a mid life crisis but I can't think of anything I feel I missed out on or want to go back to.dern wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2023 7:02 pm What do you want to achieve... recreate some aspect of being young that you either lived or missed out on, be part of a 'scene', do you want it to look the part or drive in an entertaining way or some combination of these?

As Fiat X19s are thin on the ground nowadays I reckon nothing screams midlife crisis harder than a Merc or BMW soft top with half the optional electric gubbins not working so I say get one of them

Can you get an original mini for 10k? That would be excellent.
I’d suggest a 2cv s they are superb but if you don’t already want one and have a good idea what they’re about, it’s highly likely you’d think it was shit

You're perfect, yes, it's true, but without me, you're only you.

Re: Mid Life Crisis car - £10,000 ish
Someone mentioned the MX5 and it reminded me about the Honda S2000's. They have a lot of fans and my petrol-head neighbour had one. I rather like that VTEC engine too. So I looked at the prices. Woah...they really do have their fans, pretty pricey for the later ones - £20k for a 55k miles, 2008, £12k for a 116k miles 2005.
The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

Re: Mid Life Crisis car - £10,000 ish
The later ones are less likely to kill you. The earlier models didn't have traction/stability/anti-yaw, that combined with a peaky v-tec engine meant that if you were an average driver the chances were if you tried to push on, or it was wet, you'd be going through a hedge backwards.Count Steer wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2023 9:45 pm Someone mentioned the MX5 and it reminded me about the Honda S2000's. Ok so we're talking 40 as midlife. There's a lot of cars you can get away with at 40 or so.
