It's showers here everyday till Tuesday at the moment, but don't think I'd swap it for that temp either. Anything over 25c and I don't wanna ride, luckily going out early in Summer that's possible here, doubt that works for you!

Re: ZX11 stuff
Here in the desert we have a 30-40deg temp swing between day & night. I have friends in Arizona whose riding season starts in September.

Was down the hill yesterday & dropped by the Kaw shop to see if my parts were in, ordered on Wednesday. They were

Maint on a weather hold until the temperature stops playing silly buggers. Next *scheduled* ZX11 ride is the September Kaw meet as I'm taking the ZRX11 for the August meet, so I've basically got two months to pop the tank, airbox & cam cover off to check the clearances, then sync the carbs.

Re: ZX11 stuff
100 Octane low lead Avgas... altho "low" is a bit misleading as it has about 4 or 5x the lead that street gas ever had. It's enough to turn the exhaust white within a few miles if you have a fairly unrestricted exhaust, not so obvious on stock set ups for some reason.

My day, so far...
Plan is check the valve clearances on the ZX11 & then sync the carbs, then sync the carbs in the ZRX11

Re: ZX11 stuff
Valve clearances are a gift on the ZZR. Those little spring loaded followers are the biz for the home bodger. None of that cams out bollox.

Re: ZX11 stuff
Turns out they were all good. Did the valves on the ZX11, then synced the carbs on the ZRX & ZX. Had a mate come over who is also a former Kaw mech & we tore into it.
Done & (almost) dusted in an hour.
Just have to put the tank back on the ZX11 & replace the vac line for the fuel tap on the ZRX.

Re: ZX11 stuff
ok, NOW I'm done & somewhat dusted. Bought some constant tension hose clamps for the fuel line at the tap end & the vac line I fitted this morning.
Not sure WTF happened with the ZX11 as we didn't swap any shims & just barely touched the sync screws, but it fired up & immediately idled at 1200rpm instead of blasting up to 3-4000rpm like it usually does with me adjusting the choke lever to try & keep it around 1500rpm.
May pull the left side cover/tail off it & swap out the starter solenoid as it's been playing silly fuckers since I bought it 14 months ago. Sometimes it's fine, & other times it does the clicky/buuur thing. Got a new solenoid sitting in the shelf.

Re: ZX11 stuff
Decided to investigate the left brake caliper on the ZX11, Discovered brake fluid on both sides of both pads, ordered all the gubbins from BrakeCrafters (20% Veteran discount )
It wasn't leaking enough to drip fluid from the caliper, but could tell they were contaminated when braking. Pads cleaned with lacquer thinner & put back in for now. Had new pads sitting on the shelf for months.
Spiffed up the caliper pin in the drill press.

Today's *no expense spared* ZRX11 mod..... (about $1.00)
Before:
After:
That's enough for one day, I'll do the ZX11 tomorrow.

Re: ZX11 stuff
Started on the ZX11 calipers. Left one today... Two of the pistons are mullared. New set on the way. New pistons have removable pucks like the ZRX11
4th piston was stubborn.
Looking better...

Re: ZX11 stuff
Actually used my Dremel today!!! This is the 5th time since I bought it about 30 years ago... Used it with a small wire wheel to clean some minor corrosion out of the seal grooves on the brake caliper.
Still haven't removed the other caliper.

The ZRX seat is better than the stock one. The ZX11 was only got a new cover, the shape wasn't altered.

Re: ZX11 stuff
Still waiting on ZX11 caliper pistons. They actually arrived in LA several days ago, but for some reason the PO drives everything destined for this town right past the place, 100 miles North to Bakersfield where is stays for up to a day (sometimes only a couple of hours) & then gets trucked back down here so every fucking thing takes 2-3 days longer owing to the completely fucking pointless fucking detour.
They were listed as "out for delivery" on Saturday, I assume that was during the time they were on the goddamn truck going North to Bakersfield as it went past.
.. and people can't work out why the PO is losing $$$
