What you really need is drive via cardan shaft and a centre stand.

Both is probably overkill.

Re: Lube....the thing about sealed roller chains (like fitted to every vaguely modern chain drive bike) is that the lube doesn't do a great deal of lubing. All the action happens inside the rollers with the sealed in grease. It's dirt which kills 'em, so keeping the chain clean is what will make it last.

What about the interface between the chain and the sprockets?

Nominally there shouldn't be a great need to lubricate that interface, the whole idea of the roller chain is that the sprockets and the part of the chain actually driving the sprocket don't move relative to one another, 'course that idea never works perfectly.

You do need to lubricate the 'hinge-ness' of the chain itself though.

Unsealed chains in sealed environments - like a timing chain - last for ages (ha! not on my BM they don't) 'cause they're nice and clean with a steady supply of filtered oil to get into the rollers.

I used to over lube my chains when I rode all the time. Now I do it less often and less lube. Probably every 400 miles I'd guess. Gear change is definitely better after a lube so I'd say it's a benefit to lube anyway.

Before I do the return of the Oxford stand am I being OTT about a little movement in the upright? I probably am but would prefer no movement to avoid any future bending

Dropped this off at Matalan last Thursday just before closing. Monday was still saying awaiting collection. Yesterday I pop into Matalan and lady says DPD haven't picked it up (it's still there), today I try and phone DPD, then try a chat bot with no luck.

Finally call SBS as I was going to pick the parcel up again and take it to Harlow. Bloke calls me back 5 mins later and say's he's spoken to DPD and the Matalan scanner must not have scanned properly but they'll pick it up tomorrow.

So top marks to SBS again as bloke could have just left me to pick it up. Let's hope it finally goes a week after I dropped it off.

Must admit they look rather spangly in the pics. He said they sell loads of em. He's been at Harris for about 20 years now since he left school pretty much and he said they are doing well at the moment which is good for a local firm that's been around so long.
