How do you get stock to the shops?
As a little note on this...
The big shopping centre here in MK doesn't have any obvious "back". All of the shops only present a front to the public, there's no obvious place to get lorries to them for stock. You can also walk everywhere in the city centre and not have to share a road/path with a car at any point, if you like. There's a massive park which connects directly to the town centre, 2 mins walk.
The roof of the big shopping centre is actually the loading area/back of the shops. You probably wouldn't even clock it unless you were thinking about it.
That part of MK was built in the 70s. It works miles better than any other city centre IME. But it's just a bit of a joke and everyone's abandoned the concepts 'cause it looks different
Nowhere in the article does it say anything even remotely like that.
They did on the news last night. You would be restricted to just your area, just like the city tax, move into the area that is restricted and you get a fine, apparently.
It reads to me in the first 10 hits on Google that the only people spouting that are complete fruitcakes..
Use google, i'm no expert i am just starting a discussion as i was interested.
They mentioned on BBC news that there would be a filter set out so that only certain people/vehicles would be allowed in the restrcited area's without a paid for pass or something.
TBH as with most of these sort of plans, a lot of the information is not passed onto us before it happens, and is struck upon us after it has already been built so we then have no choice but to comply, so i suppose it's a case of wait and see.

YOu've not driven in London in...what...the last 20 years have you?
How long has the CC been a thing? Isn't there one in Brizzle?

If you mean city tax then yes it was implemented here in Bristol less than a year ago.
My car is exempt, if it wasn't it would be a nightmare for me as i live less than 1m out of the city and am travelling all over the city every day. If my car wasn't exempt it would put about 30 minutes on my commute from the south to the north of the city, meaning i travel more than an extra 6 or 7 miles which also means i shall be producing more pollution, it really does boggle my mind how they justify these schemes, makes a lot of money for the rich though i suppose!

Has this been discussed yet?
Building area's where you should be able to do all your shopping within a 15 minute walk of each shop and limiting you as to where you are allowed to shop.
Basically the way i see it is that they are just trying to inflict more control, locking us into our city areas and making us pay or even banning the ability to shop elsewhere away from your home town/city, just like they are doing with the city tax!
Is this yet another avenue for them to use to ban cars and motorbikes as you will not be able to drive or park in the 15 minute cities!

It'd be great if you could do all your daily life stuff without needing to drive wouldn't it? If "they" arranged for everything to be within, I dunno, 15 mins of you

That would be impressive, 8 schools within a 15 min walk, are they going to built them or move them into high rise? - would the kids from 8 miles away get flown in?

You just need to walk faster
Seriously though, "they" do recognise there is a legitimate need for certain people to move about over a wider area than this notional "15 mins" which is why exemptions exist after all. Besides, how much easier would it be if everyone else could stay out of your way?
It all comes down to your mentality IMO. Are they trying to force you to stay in one place, or at they trying to make it nicer for you to do so, so you don't have to spend so much of your life driving about?

I'm always the sceptic, so the former, but hey let's hope i'm proven wrong.
I think it's amusing that we're basically describing life in Britain in the 1970s for the vast majority. My mum went to the shops pretty much every day, trailing her two-wheeled shopping trolley thing behind her. If it wasn't available in the the local town, we didn't get it.

Not to mention village life, that many people would love to be able to have.

I think I can say that I live in a 5 - 10 minute town, except the shops are lacking in choice and the cinema lags 6 - 12 months behind national chains, so we drive a lot
I have a customer who goes into an rage like shouting match talking about this shit. She is disabled and and almost totally house bound. She reads all sorts of conspiracy shite and its all about the big man controlling you. Apparently

The contention is that people want 15 minute cities, so build them and they'll come (to coin a phrase). No need for legislation.
Do they? It takes me 2 hours to walk to the nearest town. If we class Reading or Oxford as my nearest actual city I'd guess 4+ hours to walk to either.
