Their prices have gone through the roof in recent years... they've always been more expensive than my training but it used to be 15 / 20%... now it's 100+%. But I guess people pay it.

It’s always cold and wet
Let me know when/if your planning another
Seen the Rapid stuff advertised.
I’ve done Enduro 1:1 and that was worth it for me . Pricey but so much to take away and keep practicing after the day.
Also helps going out with others much better than me as much as possible.
Well lots of options to consider then. Thanks all.

I still think there's a valid argument that all advanced training is just people seeking to indulge themselves at your expense. And on that basis I'd say forget about all that IAM bollocks and just gan it up on t'back wheel.
Oi! What's wrong with having a fine collection of badges and certificates?

Companies such as Rapid or Survival Skills run by Spin Doctor of this parish can be more one to one based and tailored to whay you need rather than a specified course
Just had a look at the Rapid offerings. Ouch! Of the package offerings the 'Roadmaster' is 2 days, 2:1 riders:instructor at £885* and the others are part track, part road.
You can go 'bespoke' at 1:1 and £495 for the day. It seems a lot more expensive than when I did it but 'inflation' I suppose. (Did a 1:1 + a 2:1 with a workmate with John Taylor but he seems to have hung up his bòots as he's not on the Rapid roster).
*£3540 for 2 days bike riding is nice work if you can get it.

Possibly because they're the ones that appear in the bike mags - not that I actually buy them. No doubt there are inducements offered. Missing a trick there Kevin?
...... Also helps going out with others much better than me as much as possible.
Just beware....that can be a good way to pick up other people's dodgy habits. How do you judge whether they're "much better" than you?

I know at least one rider that came to grief trying to keep up with mates who were 'better riders'. (One of them even bought a bigger, faster bike to help him do just that. It didn't end well, but he did heal eventually).

Yeah I'm not so much chasing. I'm old enough for "self preservation" to be permanently switched on I ride within my limits and am aware of them.
I just like being able to stop and say i'm finding this difficult and get their point of view.
With your 'off road' experience, bike control should not be an issue for you.
Having an observed ride may be of benefit though, just to highlight any areas that might need improvement.
Iirc, IAM do an initial Rideout thingy, however IAM do it 'by the book' and do tend to have a rigid approach to things.

Oh... off the top of my head, Survival Skills has been featured in articles in Superbike, Bike, Two Wheels Only (remember that?). I was the major contributor to a cover mount called 'The Little RiDE Book of Emergencies' (it was quite good, though I say it myself). And I've also had a write-up in the motorcycling column in the Daily Telegraph. Plus SOBS featured on the Devitts website. My articles have appeared in at least a dozen IAM magazines too.
But there's a certain cachet about being out riding fast with a copper or ex-copper behind that gives lots of pub bragging rights. Rapid clearly didn't pick their name by accident.

The lads who I ride enduro with are all younger and fitter than me. Sometimes I get a bit miffed when I get dropped then lose the way.

I messed up a few months ago on the first ride out with friends over here. Can't even say I was trying to keep up with anyone - I was in front, and luckily, far enough ahead that the others didn't see what I did! Although I was trying to piss off a sports hatch car that was behind me and trying to catch me on the straights only to get lost on the corners!!
My issue was forgetting that it had been over 5 years since I'd ridden a litre bike and little roads. Even more luckily, there wasn't anything coming around the blind bend I didn't go 'around'
Did make me wind my neck in and remember that I need to relearn after such a long time off bikes (especially big bikes)
Need to find some bikers to ride with that I can relearn from!!
Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!!
