Yamaha have made some lovely looking bikes over the years,but some of the stuff they churn out these days is visually offensive!
I agree. I really like the spec and the ethos of the MT-09 and its derivatives, but cannot understand why Yamaha (apparently deliberately) made them so bloody ugly. My apologies to owners of these bikes, but I really appreciate everything about them but their looks. I could (possibly) even live with the 'hunched shoulders' styling of the fuel tank and steering head, but the headlight housing is just a bridge too far for me. I don't buy a £10k bike to then have to restyle it to make it less visually offensive.

Never thought I'd say I almost like Taipan's bike
MT09 is the best sounding bike out there and is ridden by the best looking blokes according to a poll in Cosmo last year!

Mines a Gen 2.The cyclops headlight one is a Gen 3 and a better bike, with slightly more power etc.
I fell in love with the MT-10 but it would be too much bike for me. I looked at he MT-09 and saw a Gen 2 which i;d never seen before and it looked like a mini mt10 so through the power of eBay, I owned one about a 1/4 of hour later!

I appear to be having some second thoughts. Not so much on the bike itself, but what to do with the Trident. Had a good look around eBay and other classifieds. Plenty about for sale, so will need to price it to shift it quick.

ebay advert with lots of good quality pictures and a good, comprehensive description. Stand out from the crowd. They're a popular bike and it seems bikes are surprisingly selling well for the time of the year. So put up a better advert than anyone else and help justify someone spending their money.

Has the SP got Ohlins front and back? What else does it have over the base?
Cos that at a 2k saving is a chunk of money and will easily pay for a fancy shock and a fork fiddle.

KYB front forks (upgraded over the standard MT09 affairs), Ohlins rear shock, cruise control, unique paint, and a few blacked out finishes. The bike is a 2022 model at £10k, so a decent saving. They also have a standard MT09 at £9k, but I haven't asked about availability on it.
Going to do some asking with a few dealers this week. Not checked webuyanybike.

£2K would easily buy you a decent rear shock and a fork revalve, both could be done to suit you.
The rear shock on the SP probably isn't an Ohlins made in Sweden, but a shock made by someone else with an Ohlins sticker, Yamaha have been doing this since the 90s, and the stock bikes forks are Kayabas with less adjustments.
BTW what's wrong with the Trident?

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Just fancy a change, something with a bit more power, something a touch bigger (the MT does fell bigger even though the numbers are quite similar).

Think I'm showing my inner Primark, I'd save £2k and get the basic model. Then if I thought it needed it get the suspension sorted for a lot less than 2k and if you didn't need it that's 2k to spend on something else.
