It's quite common, over here, to ignore road closed signs. They put them up, add a diversion, then bog off for a long lunch or the whole week. 95% of the time they are still easily passable.

I used to live in Albury, Herts, next village along from Furneux Pelham which is home to Violets Lane, the longest ford in the UK (allegedly). It's worth a look on Youtube, there were always half a dozen cars a year that followed the satnav and needed to be rescued and that's the ones I knew about.
