I had those tyres on a GSX600F I owned for a while, they're fine.

Maxxis make pretty damned good cycle tyres so they know what they're at.

Generally speaking, I tend to agree that cost is not directly related to quality but I will offer a word of caution.

I bought a rear Maxxis a few years back at a bargain price as a tyre for the spare wheel on the Hornet. I had to swap it on, and right from the off, I didn't like the handling. It felt very heavy, like it was half-inflated - and yes, I did double-check. Wet grip wasn't fantastic either, with a couple of slides my usual Conti wouldn't have had.

Around 800 miles later, I was preparing to swap the wheels over again, with a brand new Conti mounted to the original wheel when I noticed some cracks in the sidewalls of the Maxxis.

When I took the spare wheel off, I also noticed some long, and deep cracks in the grooves. It looked very much as though the tyre was about to delaminate.

The other thing I noticed was the astonishingly rapid tread wear - it was already about half worn in the middle. I don't think it would have made 2000 miles, let alone the 8k I get from the Contis. So at that point, it went in the bin and I ordered up another Conti as a spare.

Maybe I got a rogue. I don't know. But I'd just keep an eye on them.

Doing a trackday on dodgy front is a waste of time and money. It'll have no feel and will handle like shit.

In theory on a track you may push them a bit more than on the road if all goes to plan........... If they are already shagged for road riding why wouldnt you change them out before the track ??

I also took my brake calipers off, checked the pad material, cleaned the pistons and checked and lubed the chain but will do again before next weekend

You want it all to work properly to get the most out of the day you have paid for IMO ;)

Hard to argue.

It's not a question of "but I'll be shaggjng my tyres using on track".

Of course you will, but you'll also be using the best rubber possible on track. Good and round, soft and sticky, nicely profiled, etc.

Someone told me that would make me quicker on a track, too.

Their Great. No grip drama's in wet or dry so far. We'll see about longevity, but for Β£95 who cares. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
