Not sure I'd be standing on the outside of that corner with all that on-off-on again throttle control.

I wondered if it was me, but he didn't sound smooth/100% committed!! :o Or was he doing it to make more noise somehow?

Last year my mate was in the local Yamaha shop & interested in buying a MT10,he asked the salesman 'What's the difference between the 'normal' MT10 & the SP'? The salesman replied 'Special Paint'
He bought a Hyabusa...

I own an MT09 and 10 .. One is very exciting to ride the other is very fun 😀

It's a tough call as to which is the best and I think alot depends on the roads its being used on or even the mood you're in.

Ideally you need to get a long test ride on both on the roads you use often.

Which is which?!! LOL I 'think' fun is more important. But I know that I'd have to ride anything I look to buy - as much due to physical issues as to what bike is best for other stuff :D

(this is basically a pie in the sky convo - but the MT10 is the only thing I've fancied for ages!!)

An illegal pipe has one advantage when I'm training... it's dead-easy to analyse throttle control issues. I was even able to play a bit of video back to a trainee who was most indignant when I mentioned he was continually shutting off mid-corner and suggested he tried slowing down a bit more on the approach in order to smooth out his throttle use through the turn - the change of note in the racket was unmistakeable :)

MT-10 was the only thing that floated my boat, but I knew it would be too much for me and my needs. When I saw a 2nd gen MT-09 I saw it as a sort of mini mt-10 and took a chance on it and I fooking love it! :D I'm on the MT09 FB page and there is a few former mt10 owners on there. The reasons for the downgrade seem mixed, but are everything from self preservation to better real world riding?

The MT10 is the exciting one .. Its all that power :D

It's the power that makes it a little bit of a pain at times too . Holding 30mph isn't its strong point and it's near impossible to use 80% of the bikes throttle on the road so it makes the bike feel wasted in some ways.

The MT09 has more real world useable performance and feels more rewarding to ride because of it... its suspension is its negative point.

If I was to buy again. ....Although ive not ridden one, I think I'd go for an MT09 SP over the 10

Thing for me is that I'm mainly ridden litre bikes or 1100. So the power doesn't really make a difference to me :1 (did most of my learning on a blackbird from 6 months after I bought my first bike and for 8 years. Then, fireblade, TLs ZX10r with 390 Duke chucked in for fun!) But I get your point

I know that the biggest thing for me will be seating position (well, arm/body position) and then vibrations. I doubt either will vibe much but I'll be going for whichever bike I like that is smoothest. Probably!! LOL

It doesn't sounds like an MT10 and probably isn't as good either but don't discount the GSXS 1000 as it'll be similar price to an MT09. And from my test the Suzuki is smoother, more power, less jerky/annoying throttle and handles a lot better out the box. The MT09 has a massive fun streak but I found it disjointed as a motorcycle, it feels like it doesn't gel as a whole.

Are you comparing the latest MT09 @Supermofo ? I know the latest generation has address some of the negative things about it, especially the geometry and suspension. The older bike seemed to have some weird handling traits when it was pushed, according to most reviews.

No I rode a Gen 2 I think it was a 2019 bike. Can't say if it was just the one I rode or all of them though. Weeksy's XSR was very good but fettled. The Tracer 9 I rode, also a Gen 2, was fine handling wise. So it could have been the MT I rode, but equally I've read tests saying until the latest bikes they handle a bit funny. I just know that in comparison to the one I rode the GSXS just felt a lot more 'together' as a package if that makes sense.

@tricol your welcome to try my gen 3 MY21 mt09. Better fuelled in top mode than earlier model Gen 2. 847cc was jumpy in A mode ( i think they called it) and much better in standard. On track didn't matter.

21 Mt09 is good in top mode 889cc I think. I keep mine in top mode and is good whatever your doing with the bike. Plenty for the road, big bike's pass you at Bedford on the long straight, if that matters. 🤷‍♂️

It basically a matter of 07, fast, 09 faster, 10 fastest but fcuking ugly. 👍
