I thought used oil would rot wood? We had a couple of trees removed recently and the boyo recommended drilling the stumps and firing in used engine oil.

I had the same advice after having a tree taken down - but the oil was to make sure the stump died, not rotted.

My neighbour used to soak the foot of his fenceposts in a mix of old motor oil and diesel and as a yoot when I worked on farms we were forever dousing fencing with it. It was the cheap version of creosote. And farmers seem to have plenty of used motor oil and certainly loads of cheap dlesel.
