I think they're nice looking, and btw fuck em, ride what you like. Whether you keep it long or not is your business.

Unless pads is a known thing, chances are the bybre brakes have the same lack of feel as anything else with bybre brakes and need a smaller master cylinder fitting.

If slave pistons are around 25mm-27mm in diameter, a 1/2" nissin master off a cbr250 (they use it on a ton of 500cc and smaller bikes) might be a good place to start, assuming it clears switchgear etc.

KTM 890R .... parallel twin like the Enfield , better brakes, better suspension and quick action throttle but no retro looks

If you want the retro look then Kawasaki Z900RS, BMW R nineT, Triumph Speed Twin or even a 1200 Ducati Scrambler ...all have better suspension, radial brakes and some have electronics but none are as cheap as the RE i know

Not knocking your choice at all but seems a little "off the wall" but wtf do i know compared to your level of bike purchase history

One of my fellow instructors has the RE Himalayan and he absolutely loves it .... i rode it for 20 minutes and couldnt feel the love at all and preferred my 20 year old 600 Fazer to bimble round on

With the local knowledge, workshops and tooling he now has on his doorstep, something like this would be epic for him, finding the bits, machining the bits, getting it coated/painted/etc... For me, that's where Couchie is at right now, the building and sorting of them..

Imo. Any multi bike owner could make good use of an RE. We all need a decent reliable alrounder for touring, camping trips, etc but for a bit of fun, road or track the RE would be great.

Some don't want an old knacker that you can't trust to go too far from home. Unavailable parts etc, I know for some, this is, part of owner enjoyment also. With the modern classics, your kind of getting the best of both worlds.

I do like the single seat on these, first pic, they are a good fun bike with character and obviously a great talking point, but the piss takers will never be too far away.

Those new RE's really seem to hit the spot IMO. They look good, go well (from the tests I've watched/read) and are cheap.

Bennetts tested it the other week on youtube against the much more expensive W800 and there was very very little they liked about the Kwak over the RE regardless of price, which I think they said you could kit yourself out (if you were new to biking), insure and tax the bike for 3 years and get 65 tanks of fuel with for the price difference. That's a chuck of change. I also think it makes it viable as a 2nd bike. I'd love a retro but most are expensive enough I couldn't justify it to have 2 bikes and I don't think I want one as an only bike.

I also think they've been in the top 3 charts or certainly near the top for months.
