I'm in the opposite camp. French holiday home owner and UK resident but with a French-registered car (this was done pre-Brexit) that was an import from the UK. Apparently registering a car in France to an address that was not your primary residence was technically illegal, but pre-Brexit nobody bothered. From what I hear you can still do this as a non-resident buit it all depends on the attitude of the person doing the paperwork. But the swingeing imprt tariffs make it simply not worth doing.

They're cracking down on this now - already checking passport stamps for residency and it'll all be databased next year anyway. Starting to hand out fines at ferry crossing points.
It's 5,000€ here for still driving on UK licence.
Is that as a resident ?
Can you transfer to a Spanish licence without a test ?

You now need to be able to access the ANTS system online for registration, which you won't be able to do if nonres as it's linked to other services like carte vitale or tax systems that you probably don't have.

But yeah few people are bothering to import now as the duty is prohibitive

I pay taxes foncieres and taxes d'habitation and have an electronic userid linked to my DGFiP account, but not sure if that gives me access to the ANTS system. It's immaterial anyway, as I've no intention of trying to register any other vehicle in France.

I really should find somewhere else to go! This will be the third trip this year. It is idyllic though.
I've got a trip planned for late April. I might do the Pyrenees, although all the Spanish campsites seem to be shut until late June. Maybe even northern Italy.

I don't know. If you like the place and it suits you, why change? I found a ski resort I liked working in on the first season - kept coming back and moved here!! I still don't know any others muc, but am still happy here!! :D :D

But, if you fancy the north end of the French Alps, there are some awesome roads up here :) :) Just a bit of a sod to get to :(

(Contrary to how it could be read, I didn't mean 'cool' that you weren't over this way!! Just cool, and, other end from me!! )
