Yeah Couch and MArcus used to do it all the time for Portimao, they'd stay about 10-15 miles away in a little town, the girls and kids staying there too, make a week of it... It has merit for sure as a plan.

Good luck getting it sorted, the Algarve is superb for exploring on a bike.

If the dates come out relatively early it'll be fine, I'll book stuff around it. I assume you can just book the track time and sort your own transport and accom? Would be nice to make a week of it with Siobhan if she wants to.
You can, but for me the question is why would you, as the package deal that UK TDAs offer includes the bike transport and usually reasonabley decent resort hotels- Certainly in the case of Portimao, the hotels that NL use are decent with pools, right on the beach and in amongst a good choice of restaurants and bars etc and just it makes it all so easy and painless.
You just drop your bike and kit, and spares etc you want to take down at a depot in Swindon the weekend before, it's then loaded onto an artic, and you jump on a flight (that you choose and organise yourself) and roll up to the pre-booked hotel a week later, and when you get to the circuit, your bike and kit is sitting in the paddock ready and waiting for you.
I'd probably book the accom through the TDO but no idea what bike, so would probably get a van here and drive down - unless I talk to someone over there that might have something more suitable that they'd be willing to drop off at Swindon!! I know someone with an old 'forum' 600 that might be willing :D :D

Tricky wrote: Tue Sep 06, 2022 11:10 am As for making a week of it with OHs, this is more than likely what I will do if it goes ahead, and exactly what I did for Cartegena earlier this year- Isabella came too and at the end of the 3 days on track, instead of driving to the airport and heading straight home, we spent the next 4 days having a leisurely drive up the coast and a bit of beach/ sight-seeing time etc, made it a doubly nice break rather than " just" a jolly boys trackday/beer/talking bollocks sort of trip
Am I gonna be billette singleton? Don't need the added pressure of having to bring along a random OH

My brain started coming up with scenarios where I sent one bike and it didn't work on day one so I'd take two so I may as well take the van and make it a road trip... or I could sell both bikes and buy something that I know would work which had me looking at ebay... like I. said in another thread, I *totally* over think stuff ;)

I'll come. Portimao is a fantastic trip. Sam, Dewi and Pedro may be up for it as well. Would be a proper laugh.

Would be great to see you there assuming it happens- If any of your above bike plans don't work out and I'm going, you'd be welcome to share my ZX6 with me, we'd just need to make sure we were in different groups- am not precious about it, and I've previously done exactly the same thing with mates and my brother at both Portimao and Almeria on my old 10, worked out fine ( and meant the tyres never really got cold , and we weren't using warmers :) )

Well, at least two choices there I guess- either share with one of the other attendees that you know, pay the single supplement uplift for the room, or if you're feeling brave, just roll the dice, and see who they billet you with

That's really kind of you, thank you. I would take the Monster (not sure how long it would survive at Portimao tho!! LOL) and am making plans to get a bigger bike here (as long as I don't break myself again before summer!). Would prefer to not take a new (big) bike, maybe!!

When we know dates, I'll have a chat about the 6 that I might be able to borrow, but thank you loads :D x Oh, and I'd 100% be in the slowest group! Will be my first trackday in 6 years as I doubt I'll do one in the UK before!! LOL

Not sure I know anyone well enough to share :D :1  Definitely not brave enough to roll the dice  !!! I always used to pay the single supplement!

I meant more, is this gonna be a couples holiday as I'm so not keen to be the token singleton on the evenings!! (Would still come tho - might just see if I can drum up a friend to join in :D )

Last four trips to portimao we just booked track time and our own hotel in a village called Alvor , the NL hotels were nice but we didn’t like Praia da Rocha that much it was more ‘Skegness’. OK for lads but not family for us. Either way circuit is superb.

Did this back last year, stayed in Ferragudo, opposite Portimao, vastly better place to stay then Portimao city center imo.

Hello all btw, hope you're all well, haven't been very active lately due to work and family life taking up my time.

Also started racing with NG and Bemsee this year on the R1, been a load of fun and had some good results, will probably do a write up at some point of my experiences within my first year of racing.

Weeksy that YouTube video you've linked is my mates that came with us too.

Well a date was suggested by @fil2 who's a euro regular and the person I've done Euros and many UK dates with before.

But I'm afraid when I threw the idea out for @Welsh Muffin and also @G.P it was a No from both. Which kinda makes it a deal breaker for me really. Whilst I'd do a Euro again, I wouldn't really do it as a solo adventure at this moment.

So it'll be back to the usual discussions with @Alan PBTD when he gets dates from Pembrey and we'll be doing that. Along with some days at Silverstone too of course.

S*it U coming back again ?

So it's ''Lost In France'' ??

Funnily enough some TD regulars were asking about a ''PBTD European'' date today...

At that point I got called away..
