My first car,a Vauxhall Chevette lost it's hub caps every bump in the road,so it can be done without needing all that horsepower nonsense.

Don't get me wrong, slow cars can be shit too

My mum had a Chevette when I was about 11. The brakes used to fail a few times a journey and she'd just go 'shit' under her breath and start pumping the pedal furiously coming up to junctions.

Your 900SS needs looking at, Cosworths are only 200 bhp

One of the lads (who's old man was minted and a car dealer) when I was a teen had one running about 480bhp iirc and could light up the tyres in 3rd gear if provoked.
He only had it a couple of months before losing his licence, it was always going to be a choice between his licence and his life the way he drove about in it.

Never got the Ford thing, I had a Corolla GT coupe that was way cooler

Johhny from the Late Brake Show has taken it for a spin. If I had the money this is the car I'd buy.

I love a classic ford, esp mk2 escort RS2000's and mk3 escourt RS Turbo's.

My mate has a concourse mk3 Fiesta RS Turbo. Totally mint with about 30k on the clock, completely standard too in red on an H plate. He bought it back when we we're house sharing in around 2005 and it hasent really moved except moving it to his new gaff when we sold that house. Always garaged etc, probs worth a few bucks now.

IMO however i think cars should be enjoyed for what they are rather than being used as a money maker. Locking them away in garages etc is a bit sad really as other people never get to see them and enjoy them.

My granda was a Ford employee at the plant in Belfast for most of his life. We were very close, he was pretty much my second dad. I remember all the Fords from the late 80's onwards. I used to go to the local showroom with him (my parents didn't drive) and he would just take me there so I could sit in the cars and get the brouchers. I'd read them front to back over and over. I've a real soft spot for the Escort/Orion as he had loads of them. I used to take his keys and go sit in the car pretending to drive. Flooded the carbs on several occasions

Jonny Smith has done some really nice Ford barn finds, must watch the Gordon Murray one later.

Back in the day I had a 2.0 MK2 Capri. Taught me all I needed to know about rws, long before drifting had been invented.
MK2 XR2 with a Kent cam and decent suspension, like a bloody go kart, and then somebody offered me a MK2 Cortina for silly money, 25k miles, unmarked red vinyl interior. Drove around in that for a couple of years, until the local scrotes worked out it only needed a penny to start it up.

My dad had a mk 2 zodiac ( think z cars)

He bought a vanden plasce R. 4 litre rolls Royce engine and it went like shit off a shovel.

He had Humber hawks, Austin Westminster and a Wolsey 6/110.

I bought a Austin 2.2 6 cylinder landcrab, hydro elastic suspension. Went like hell and was the most comfortable car I have ever had. Very popular with the lady’s , loads of room in the back

There are a number of times I should have heeded these sage words prior to buying frivolous cars.

I've owned 3 Ford's.

A Ford Corsair, a Transit and a Taunus (when I was stationed in Berlin).

None of them were classics and to be honest, I didn't realise any Ford could be a classic until this thread popped up.

I was reminded of this thread when a Ford Capri drove past me the other day. I used to LOVE those cars. Never owned one, but always wanted to. But this version was not the best of colours, can't remember the top colour, but the bottom was all sorts of wrong It was supposed to be that awful tan from back then, but I'd guess it was resprayed cos it was even worse!! LOL Just not quite right!

But the car itself still made me smile

Seems like the seller may be a little sparing with the truth. He says the interior is immaculate. It's far from that looking at the pictures, trim coming apart on the door handle and filthy dirty floor for starters?

Wonder what else isn't quite as described? It is still pretty cool mind you, and not a bad price, I thought they were worth more than that? Could afford to spend a couple of quid and get it looking really nice.

Proper 70s/80s housing estate background for added authenticity too.

That's weird, when I looked at the advert it was at £7000 on the auction, but had a buy it now for £9500??

It's probably just me, but I can't get excited about XR3s. I have a Golf background...2 Mk1 GTi's, 3 Mk2's, and a VR6. The only old Ford I could give space to would be a Mk1/2 RS2000, but they are mega money now. When they were current, I chose a Fiat 131 Sport instead - not as basic inside as the Escort, and similar performance. But it disintegrated in front of my eyes - unbelievable rust. I think it's the only really bad car decision I've ever made.

So I don't want your XR3.

My old boss had an RS200 (losing the one zero makes a big difference ) with turbo the size of a dinner plate.

That's a classic Ford I can get on board with.
