I'd go a fair few miles to avoid those boyos.

I went to Box Hill once. Was a shit ride there on busy roads.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 9:04 pm You should have gone to Chelsea Bridge in the 80s, shit, dangerous stunts were normal on a Friday night, followed by a ride to Heston at stupid speeds, where more shit stunts were done. It's a crap car park full of wannabe tossers.

Re: Wot's the bike?
Yup, not been to the Ace in probably 15 years and no rush to go back. It's a rubbish ride there for me and Friday nights like that video aren't my cup of tea. I used to go about 3 times a week when I lived near as I rode home on the North Circ and so did my mate so it was a handy meeting spot after work for a coffee and a chat.
On a Fri night there though especially it's a different place. Go on a Sunday afternoon and it's much like any other 'biker' place. Lots of old men. Go on a Fri night and I should imagine it's more like it was back in the 60s, edgy and full of youths looking to impress their mates so it's chaos. Compared to somewhere like the Krazy Horse late nite I reckon the average age goes from say 50 odd at Bury to probably half that if not younger. Lots of hoodies, scooters and people more than happy to do shite wheelies during school pick up time or stoppie to within inches of a Post Office artic. How those lorry drivers stop themselves running people over I don't know. I've seen them held up for 10 mins whilst people deliberately drift as close as possible to them for fun.

Re: Wot's the bike?
That's it the Ace on a Fri night is for young people who ride bikes exactly because they want to do crap wheelies and speed or watch other people do it.

Re: Wot's the bike?
Those vids are why I never go to bike meets. Normally the roads surrounding them have Plod with speed cameras or looking out for tinted visors, small reg plates, race cans etc. When you get there it's full of cocks like that doing shit like that. I'm sure I'd have found it fun in my 20s though, but deffo not for me today.
I went to Chelsea bridge once and it was absolute lunacy and I left shortly after arriving. I think it was the night I went that someone was killed there and I think he was from Visordown?

Re: Wot's the bike?
Chelsea Bridge could be completely mental, LCs wheeling down the centre of the road with traffic going both ways was not unusual, I don't know why it was never clamped down on by the police, it's round the corner from the Houses of Parliament, so there was no shortage of police nearby, first few times I went I was convinced the police would turn up at any minute and knick everyone, never happened in the year or so I was regular in the mid 90s (we lived in Tooting at the time)

Re: Wot's the bike?
It's Friday night so it's the Ace... it's about 2 miles from here and just a constant sound of bikes round the N Circular.

I've been to the Ace a few times over the years, but always at more civilised times, for things like the Christmas toy run https://photos.app.goo.gl/oxQ52TDnixcyv1ds7 or seeing this guy off on his winter trip to northern Norway
https://www.facebook.com/groups/186932534778636 . Glad I avoided Friday nights.

I sometimes think about going there but it’s a long stop start ride to stand in a car park-Yorick wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 11:42 pmI went to Box Hill once. I’m surprised this stuff still goes on at the Ace .

Re: Wot's the bike?
Some good things about Box Hill/Rykas (it's not a burger van any more) - the car park is big, you get all sorts from the old geezers on their Rudges to the sparky slider boys with their humps and fly-spattered leathers, the bankers and chartered accountants with their Ride Captain, off-roaders, motards, lots of GSs, ratted bikes etc etc. There's always something to have a gawp at. It's a nice area and you don't have to do much to get onto roads where the bikes have magically disappeared , you can have a rat-burger then ride over to Newlands Corner on the gnarly back lanes and have another one. Or have a run down to the seaside stopping off for another burger at Whiteways on the A29 near Arundel....make a day of it, do a 3 burger ride and have a candy-floss on the beach at Little'ampton (aka LA).asmethurst99 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 4:28 amI sometimes think about going there but it’s a long stop start ride to stand in a car park-Yorick wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 11:42 pmI went to Box Hill once. PS the lunacy seems to have declined. Haven't seen a wheelie on the A24 for a while or any time trials through the Mickleham 'Deceptive Bends'.

Re: Wot's the bike?
I've thought of going to Box Hill again recently for somewhere to go. But it's almost exactly the opposite side of the M25 from Hertford, so that'd be a really dull ride around the M25 when in the same time/miles I'd be on my way back from somewhere decent in Essex/Suffolk all on B roads. Pity as some great roads not far from Box Hill

Re: Wot's the bike?
It was deffo Storm. The original Memorial Meet was started just after his passing IIRC. He posted about what he was up to that Friday and then never posted again
