Thinking more... top speed may be quite similar , 165 ish . Reckon MR wasn't too happy with the Duke on the bumpy bits. Interesting tho.

I've toured many thousands of miles on my GSXR1000s.
For me the perfect tourer. Comfy as fuck.

Re: Superduke TT lap
It's a thread diversion, but there are other factors which make a bike comfortable, other than higher handlebars. If the triangle of handlebars, seat and footpegs happen to suit your particular body shape/dimensions,then the bike will be comfortable. Both my ZX9R and 10R were just right for me. I did over 600 mile days on the 9R and enjoyed them all. The 10R was reputed to be an uncompromising and uncomfortable bike, but again a perfect fit for me.
I have a mate who has only ever rode sportsbikes,he says anything upright makes his tailbone ache. That's because the triangle is wrong for him,so his weight is unevenly distributed and he becomes uncomfortable.

You're the exception that proves the rule tho' Yoz.
One my Wiltshire based mates will happily do a 250 mile day on his Panigale. He's got a long body and short legs (relatively), he just fits sports bikes better than most of us (he fucking hates life below 60 mph though!)

I have a long body and short legs too, its why I hate sportsbikes I feel like I'm looking "up" the whole time I'm riding and it does my neck in.
Knees are never a problem.

Perhaps, or more likely he's just got a lot less experience of non-GSXR1000 tourers than most of us so he doesn't really have anything else to compare it to....

Anyway....with regards to the OP: I have to believe he wasn't at 10/10ths? Fun as it may be to bash KTM*, if you could go faster in 1969 with skinny tyres and drum brakes one has to believe something else is up?

Re: Superduke TT lap
An 80bhp race bike will have a top speed of over 150mph, and brakes only slow you down.

Re: Superduke TT lap
I can't imagine that Michael Rutter would go 10/10ths just for a magazine puff piece, especially as he'd be getting horrendous wind blast most of the way round. And the times that Ago and Mike were doing in 1967 were exceptional even for those two legends. It took other riders 8 years to surpass Mike's lap record. Hailwood admitted that he had nothing left to give and had Ago's chain not broken on his last lap then he would have won.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Jul 02, 2022 12:45 pm Anyway....with regards to the OP: I have to believe he wasn't at 10/10ths? Re: Superduke TT lap
It’s a parade lap ffs there is no comparison to be made.
The wind buffeting would be outrageous and for a parade lap i’d imagine you’d be like “fuck that” no point going flat out when it means fuck all.
Michael is getting on a bit now, his 123 lap on the Speciale was impressive from a standing start, a parade lap but on a bike that’s more suited.

Re: Superduke TT lap
Love the idea you can just hang back a bit on the fast bits and still do a 108mph lap. These guys operate in a different league to mere mortals.

Re: Superduke TT lap
I reckon you can still tuck in/down on a naked bike quite a bit, even with no screen. We've all been at silly speeds on nakeds, just sitting up for the brakes. But yeah, it ain't no fairing.

Re: Superduke TT lap
You'll get similar from me. I bought BMW RTs because they're slower than sportsbikes
It's a different kind of fun
Even bland can be a type of character
