Re: Possible NBT; Tell me about air cooled 900 Monsters
My worse engines are 600cc IL4s. I liked my z900 as it had masses of grunt, but where I ride, I rarely get the chance to thrash big capacity engines and for me that limits the riding experiance. So a "gutless" or slower 900 might be worth a punt? I think I've gone off the idea now though and am quite pleased I managed some restraint on Friday night! My wife is right, I wont use it and it'll just be more money on tax and insurance etc. Never say never though...Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 9:59 am He'll buy one, ride it for a couple of weeks and then decide that he'd rather ride a big scooter and then sell it, he just won't admit to himself that what he really wants is a Japanese inline 4

I liked my FZR600R which made a claimed 90ish bhp, I rode a GSR600 and it's one of the worst bike engines I've ever used, horrible gutless thing with a worse power band than a two stroke, both 600cc inline 4s, but completely different to ride, it's a shame you can't get something like the old 4 cylinder Z650, which was nicer to ride than the Z900/1000 of the same era and did about 120mph.Taipan wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 12:17 pm

It's still nagging at me. Anyone got an idea of the value of it? Is the starting price of £3.5k a good price? Seems a nice example? Belts have been done etc?

900 monsters have the same Motor as the 92- 98 900SS which is a lovely road engine. Post '98 they are injected
Original early examples are getting pricey (up to £5k) but there are still plenty of "honest" ones around.
Remember they are 30+ years old so need looking after but they are simple bikes and really reliable strong motors.
The one below is a good example of what they are generally like. This one has had the Frame and Wheels repainted and the rear "teatray" removed a nd has aftermarket pipes

Even if it not original, as long as the changes are "period" it will still appreciate.

Re: Possible NBT; Tell me about air cooled 900 Monsters
I loved the engine in my 900SS, 87hp at the rear wheel with cans and a remap. Revved lovely then with great fuelling and loads of midrange, I’d def try and get an injected one
