Haven’t ridden in anger on track in years, haven’t ridden a sportsbike in years so don’t expect me to be coming by you quickly, I’m just gonna try and hold my own in inters 👍
Imagine me and Animal were right behind you like in the good old days :D

Seriously though, I might bring the 890 too in case you fancy a go to compare it to the R7

Animal was never behind me for long when i have ridden with him ...... If you remember Adders his favourite game when i first met him waaaaay back when i was new to group riding was to arrive behind me then weave about in my mirrors to fuck with my head.

I got to the stage after a couple of rides of seeing him behind me, folding in the mirrors and giving him a 2 finger wave and then just riding my own ride

@Couchy , i will be interested in what you think of the R7 and the eldest sons best mate has just ordered one as his first bike after passing his test as he couldnt find a decent R6 in low mileage and good condition without paying silly money

The hired standard R7 was ok, I’m not the smallest or slowest so the suspension was pretty poor tbh. The forks bottomed on hard braking which triggered the abs. The rear shock compressed too much mid corner which meant it ran wide. The engine didn’t feel as strong as the MT07 which is just how it felt in the tenere 700. I think the light weight of the MT suits it way more. But it held its own in inters and was still a fun bike to ride. After two sessions I’d reached my limit on it as it was moving around a fair bit.
Luckily weeksy had the 690 so I jumped at the chance, wow the difference was night and day. Brakes that worked and suspension that was superb. No bottoming out and no wallowing. It also felt a good chunk quicker. The blipper abs quick shifter were great. Considering the 690 and R7 are competitors the R7 felt like a budget bike that needed £1k of suspension and a few more £££ on a quick shifter exhaust and remap, the 690 felt and is a much higher quality product especially in the brakes suspension and electronics side. The fact it’s quicker is a bonus too.
Great day out but there was only one winner with the bikes 👍

When you think about it, a brand new budget sports bike with dodgy brakes and suspension, no up and down, isn't a sensible route, especially for occasional track use. Imo.

Poor show Yamaha. 👎

Fuller report to follow by me too later when I have more time but I (very surprisingly to myself) completely agree with that- I was in two minds whether to take up Weeksy's offer as the two of his previous 690s I'd tried, I really didn't like in the slightest on track but 690 was indeed ace
