Thats quite well done and some nice touches here and there. I remember a few mates using them as courier bikes back in the day and would have done myself if i found a decent one but ended up going the BMW R100 route instead. One bloke by the name of Martin had the nicest courier CX you will ever have seen and it was immaculate every day he turned up for work. Was a real shame when he lobbed it on a cobbled street on a mixture of diesel and rain as it smashed the thing to pieces even at 30 mph

I love the CX500 and I love the brick beemers. I think the crucial aspect is I don't remember either of them being "current". I also don't expect them to be any good compared to a modern bike, so if they're shite to ride that's pretty much what I thought would happen.

Yeah what dazzle said. It has to be retro-looking or reet-fooked-looking, otherwise it just draws attention to "a disappointing motor"

It almost does it for me. But those tubed wheels would have to go - there are plenty of tubeless spoked wheels around now. I'd also like to lose the power-sapping 2 into 1 - with just 50-odd hp, you'll need 'em all.

And I'd pass on the red plug leads and heads, and the blue wheels.

The CX was a great example of a bike looking great from the seat when you're sat on it

I thought the CX engine had a certain appeal because it's a sideways v-twin so the pots stick out; which look quite good from some angles. That said I haven't seen the hipster lot descend on Guzzis.

I had a CX500 (1978 model?) back in t'day. And it was shit then. I'd still quite like a 650 turbo though. Just for t'craic, mind. I'm just in it for t'craic.

As a point of reference, I was an LC boy when the CX was in its heyday. I remember chasing a CX down one of my favourite roads on the LC and when we pulled up at the lights he completely blanked me, which I thought was a bit arsey. Probably tainted my view of the CX and their riders...

I knew no better. Actually, I was a lazy fecker who didn't want to adjust a chain every few days after long-distance motorway commuting. Which it did smoothly.

To be fair I think I bought a knackered one and they did have a good reputation for durability and comfort despite a few known issues.
