Haven't experimented with the bikes - I always put super unleaded in them - but the car is noticeably better on super unleaded. Significantly better mpg and the response is sharper.

I thought E10 had knocked 10% off my car MPG.

But I think it was a coincidence, E10 became mainstream just as the temps dropped.

Now we've had a couple of days in March with temps above 10c my MPG magically returned to 30 on those days (this morning it was 1.5c and I was back to 27mpg on the commute).

I thought low temps only really messed with Diesels, but my car is petrol.

The air is denser regardless of the fuel burned, so aerodynamics are always going to take a hit and the ECU will make changes for the extra O2 being shoved into the engine.

Temperature makes virtually no difference to the return on my petrol car. The quality of the fuel definitely has.

In a coincidence of timing we were having this discussion at a lunch on Friday - it's been noticed by a few of the owners of the more performance orientated cars that unleaded just isn't cutting it anymore. One or two had looked into whether their ECUs were able to "learn" what grade of fuel is in - beyond just the usual knock sensing.

I put in Super from Tesco in the GSXS yesterday as not sure how much I'll be riding it short term. It was £1.59 a litre. It took £25 odd/15.9 litres so the shop must only have put a litre or 2 in the tank when they delivered it. I was reading on the BBC this morning that council house petrol may well hit £1.70+ a litre within weeks so not sure if I'll want to continue with super short term as that'll be silly money.

Bloody Putin couldn't have given us a 1 year break from the silliness could he!!!

Earlier tonight I filled up the Tuono with VMax, low fuel light was on got £31.99 to the brim. Just checked on the shell app and it reckons I got 18.5 ltrs in. Strangley the tank capacity has a 18ltr capacity and there was still some fuel in before I filled it up. Might have to give Trading Standards a call uless Aprilia allow a very large air gap at the top of the tank.

Maybe the plastic tank has already expanded?

At anything above £1.52 litre my GSA is gonna be £50+ to fill its cavernous tank.

I'm seeing £1.59 for regular around here now. Super would be probably 20p a litre more (ish - they never the super price on the big signs)
