Depends on the bike - some are actually more stable with a topbox! My Rocksters have all been a little weavy at speed with just the panniers on, but stable as a rock with the topbox on.
Really DOES depend on the bike. My XJ weaves slightly at motorways speed solo with the top box on it, but is fine with box and passenger... or my aging Givi FastPack which is a kind of giant tail hump which straps over the passenger seat and rack.

Most cheapy topboxes come with a universal plate that you bolt to the rack that the top box then clips into. Not as pretty as the bespoke box but then you won't be lightening your wallet to the same extent.

I have two topboxes, one a medium size that I prefer for, and a bigger one that holds the Mrs's shoe and handbag collection when we're on a bike trip. The first attaches by a universal rack. The latter clips to the locking prong on the universal bit but purely by luck the front actually fits into the slots on the Yamaha XJ6 rack!

Topbox it. You can take it off. The practicality is aces. Also, if you enjoy riding the bike, make sure it does what you want to do so you keep riding it.

My T100 used to feel less than happy at around 90 mph, especially on a windy day. A big topbox cured that.
The drag reduced its top speed to 80mph?

Surprised no one mentioned the Ventura system. Have had them on my KTM RC8's and Fireblades, and have one now on my Street Triple.
