IPT are the reason I live in MK. When I worked there it was almost exclusively piston engine design though. I've been a supplier to them (carbon parts) a few times over the years, now they're an arch rival

I was more thinking literally unrideable. So twist the throttle and it goes backwards. Or judders like mad. Or just catches fireSkub wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 9:57 pmThat's the gist of my query.
In biking's history there have been many awesome custom builds which have so much power they are unrideable, but for some twisted souls, still desireable and always memorable.
Will it be possible for software engineers to make that happen?
I don't think there will be huge amounts to gain at home no, certainly not like a piston engine. Any high performance EV is gonna be pretty aggressively optimised already. Its also not like road piston engine which is massively held back by noise and emissions...think of the first things home tuners do to uncork ICE and think of hw little that applies to an EV.
I think you could probably just increase the time its over rated for and run the risk of overheating.

It’s got a big radiator, will it be using “waterless” coolant or an oil, like Midel used for power transformers in areas where you don’t want flammable oil?

Looks tasty, to much like the new Striple rather than the comfier older Striples for my old bones, and as per always range and or infrastructure needs to catch up

Re: Triumph TE-1
It'll have liquid cooling on the battery, inverter and motor. The Triumph site doesn't say which kind it is, but water and oil are both commonly used in this sort of application.

Well that sounds bloody stupid! We should definitely swap that for something safer. Like dino-juice...

Believe it or not, most high performance EV motors completely submerge the windings (the business end wires) in coolant. So it's pretty common to have a couple of hundred amps in wires which are soaking wet.

Okay then, pure water is a good electrical insulator.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 9:26 am I was told that everything conducts electricity... if you use enough current.

To be fair, said wires are insulated.

And in that context it's worth remembering that 10 hp is enough to push a motorcycle along at a constant 60 mph on the flat. Roughly 30 hp gets you a sustained 100 mph.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 9:48 pm On the flip side, you can also MASSiVELY overrate an electric motor for a little bit. Motors typically have a continuous rating, then maybe 5 min, 1min, 30s etc ratings...sometimes down as low as 1s. The difference between them might be a factor of 3. So you can fit a 100bhp for spritely performance but actually run it at 300bhp for an instant and maybe 200bhp for a minute.

That's a shame for you, because it doesn't sound at all excitingTarmacsurfer wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 9:32 pm
Control software for the vehicle controller.
As always it always sounds more exciting than it is but I can assure you it's not CGI and has run on the track!
Does look like a nice bike, certainly one I would be interested in.
I hope it has a decent range though. Already having a bike with only a 90ish mile range, it can be a bit of a pain on a longer ride.

And some EV bike batteries are liquid immersion cooled, as you know. This helps cooling and is cheaper to produce, albeit increasing the weight.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 9:09 am Believe it or not, most high performance EV motors completely submerge the windings (the business end wires) in coolant. I think perhaps it's the future for larger capacity bikes (not small commuters).

Re: Triumph TE-1
They've completed Phase 4 they say - actually riding it.
Headline figures they're quoting now:
- 220kg
- 175bhp
- 109Nm (80lb.ft) @ 0rpm
- 100 mile range
- 80% charge in 20 minutes
- No price
I still love the look of it, but as I've said before any bike looks about 94% better when it doesn't have mirrors, indicators and a numberplate!

Re: Triumph TE-1
That 220 kilos must be a target, there are loads of bikes that manufacturers state as weighing the magic 220kgs.

Re: Triumph TE-1
In the video I watched about it he said they'd definitely not be taking it to market & it was just a learning project. He did however say the price would be between 25 and 30 if they had been going to.
It was the 44teeth one, but had thingy from Superbike / Bike world for some reason.
